Summary: A very short message given after an Easter Musical.

Say the Name

Thank you for coming here tonight (today). We trust you have been blessed and encouraged by the message of the resurrected Christ.

I would like to take just a few moments to visit with you about 3 things related to the Name of Jesus.

First, His Name means something. In Bible times, names were chosen many times to reflect certain things. In this case, the name “Jesus” was chosen for a specific reason. The Bible tells us that Mary was to name the baby Jesus, “because He will save His people from their sins.”

The name “Jesus” literally means, “The Lord saves.” He came to save us from our sins. And make no mistake, we are all sinners. The Bible says that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” and, “there is no one righteous, not even one.” I am certainly not perfect – ask my mother-in-law! No one is exempt from the need for the salvation that Jesus brings. And the worst of it is, without it, we face eternity in hell. Not very pretty to think about, but reality nonetheless.

Second, Jesus is the ONLY way to obtain that salvation. The apostle Peter said, “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.” Jesus Himself said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” Without Jesus there is no hope for heaven. The Bible says that those who have the Son has eternal life, he who does not have the Son of God does not have that life.

So we have established that we need salvation, and that Jesus provides it. Well, now what? Simple. Say the Name. Say the Name! Jesus! Call on His Name! Call on Him to forgive your sins and help you turn from them. Call out to Him, believing that He died and rose from the grave so you could go to heaven. Call on Him to save you from the punishment we all deserve and give you the eternal life in heaven that He promises to everyone who takes Him as their own.

The result of this? The Bible says, “Everyone who calls on the Name of the Lord will be saved.” You can know right now that from this moment on, you are going to heaven when you leave this earth. That is great news! The knowledge that you don’t have to suffer for your sins is great! Isn’t God wonderful? The Bible says that God shows His love for us that He sent His Son so that we might live through Him. I can’t fathom how wonderful that really is.

He will save the criminal and the churchgoer. It makes no difference. He loves you and wants you just as you are. You will never be good enough because you can’t earn heaven. He promises to make you a new person, so you don’t have to worry about cleaning up your act before you come to Him. He does the cleaning.

Lastly, listen to the words of Jesus: “I tell you the truth, whoever hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me will not be condemned. He has crossed over from death to life.”

We are going to pray, and if you want to pray to take Jesus as your Savior, you pray along with me in your heart. After this, I would ask you to remain with your eyes closed and heads bowed for a few moments.
