VIII. MAIN BODY:

A. Judgements are for scoffers

"Judgements are prepared for scoffers,"

Judgements or "shephet" in Hebrew which means:

1. sentence

2. infliction - the act of laying on or applying; as the infliction of torment or of punishment.

As for us believers, it will no longer be the case because CHRIST personally took our infliction that was meant for us.

1 Peter 2:24 (Amplified Bible)

2:24 He personally bore our sins in His [own] body on the tree [as on an altar and offered Himself on it], that we might die (cease to exist) to sin and live to righteousness. By His wounds you have been healed.

2 Corinthians 5:21 (Amplified Bible)

5:21 For our sake He made Christ [virtually] to be sin Who knew no sin, so that in and through Him we might become [endued with, viewed as being in, and examples of] the righteousness of God [what we ought to be, approved and acceptable and in right relationship with Him, by His goodness].

Isaiah 53:5 (Amplified Bible)

53:5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our guilt and iniquities; the chastisement [needful to obtain] peace and well-being for us was upon Him, and with the stripes [that wounded] Him we are healed and made whole.

Prepared or "kun" in Hebrew which means:

1. to be erect

2. to set up

3. establish, fix, prepare, apply

4. figuratively: appoint, render sure, proper or prosperous

Scoffers, scorners or "luts" in Hebrew which means:

1. to make mouths

2. scoff - to treat with insolent ridicule, mockery or contumelious language; to manifest contempt by derision; with at.

3. make a mock, mocker, scorn, teacher

4. scorn - extreme contempt; that disdain which springs from a person's opinion of the meanness of an object, and a consciousness or belief of his own superiority or worth.

5. mock - properly, to imitate; to mimick; hence, to imitate in contempt or derision; to mimick for the sake of derision; to deride by mimicry.

Illustration: To scoff at religion and sacred things is evidence of extreme weakness and folly, as well as of wickedness.

Proverbs 3:34 (Amplified Bible)

3:34 Though He scoffs at the scoffers and scorns the scorners, yet He gives His undeserved favor to the low [in rank], the humble, and the afflicted.

2 Peter 3:3-7 (Amplified Bible)

3:3 To begin with, you must know and understand this, that scoffers (mockers) will come in the last days with scoffing, [people who] walk after their own fleshly desires

3:4 And say, Where is the promise of His coming? For since the forefathers fell asleep, all things have continued exactly as they did from the beginning of creation.

3:5 For they willfully overlook and forget this [fact], that the heavens [came into] existence long ago by the word of God, and the earth also which was formed out of water and by means of water,

3:6 Through which the world that then [existed] was deluged with water and perished.

3:7 But by the same word the present heavens and earth have been stored up (reserved) for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly people.

Judgements or inflictions (torment, or punishment) are already established in the life of scorners, scoffers and mockers.

B. Stripes for the back of fools

"and stripes for the backs of [self-confident] fools."

Proverbs 7:22 (Amplified Bible)

7:22 Suddenly he [yields and] follows her reluctantly like an ox moving to the slaughter, like one in fetters going to the correction [to be given] to a fool or like a dog enticed by food to the muzzle

Proverbs 10:13 (Amplified Bible)

10:13 On the lips of him who has discernment skillful and godly Wisdom is found, but discipline and the rod are for the back of him who is without sense and understanding.

Proverbs 17:10 (Amplified Bible)

17:10 A reproof enters deeper into a man of understanding than a hundred lashes into a [self-confident] fool.
