The Bible refers to God by different names and each one reveals some aspect of His character and His relationship with us.

Abram is no wimp. He quickly mobilizes "318 trained men who had been born into his household." (Genesis 14:14). The fact that they were trained means that Abram was always prepared for battle. I need that kind of preparedness.

"Paying tithes? That's UNDER THE OLD TESTAMENT LAW. It just doesn't apply today." Someone draws out Genesis 14:17-24 from it's holster like a Colt Peacemaker six-gun and recites "ABRAHAM PAID TITHES 500 YEARS BEFORE THE LAW!" but was it an imaginary gun?

Part 2 - Genesis 14:17-24 - TITHING WITHOUT A GUN HELD TO MY HEAD Most Television Preachers and many well known and Respected Pastors would all agree that TITHING IS FOR TODAY. After all Malachi 3:10 says, "Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple. If you ...read more

  • Studies In Genesis: Chapters 14 Series

Contributed by Edward Hardee on Oct 14, 2011

This is a study of the book of Genesis. Genesis and Revelation are two of the most disputed books in the Bible. The premise of this study is the foundation of creation.

Note: When doing a study on a book in the Bible you use a lot of resources. The major influence for me on this study of Genesis is The Genesis Record by Henry Morris. Genesis 14 1*. And it came to pass in the days of Amraphel king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer ...read more

Because our God is generous we never have to worry about the things we need for this life of the next.

Thanksgiving is traditionally a time to make a list of things that we are thankful for. I want to make another list this morning – a list of things that you are afraid of. What would be on that list? Are you afraid of the dark? Sickness? Being alone? Rejection? Math tests? Public speaking? Spiders? ...read more

Sodom represents the allurment of the world. It proved deadly for Lot, and it will just as surely destroy our lives if we venture close to the world.

Our passage gives us a powerful lesson concerning worldliness. The key question from Genesis 14, “how close can you get to sin before it corrupts you?” The key verse, is Genesis 14:12. There we learn that while Lot first “pitched his tents near Sodom, now we read that Lot was ...read more

That’s where you’ll find your peace – when you know Him and believe Him, when you know that despite desperate or discouraging circumstances, the end of the story is coming and it’s perfect.

It was a low point for Abraham, perhaps the lowest. The ‘father of faith’ was despairing. You see, he had heard the voice of the Lord while living in Ur –a place where the moon god (now known as Allah) was worshipped. But, the true and living God had spoken to him, telling him to ‘forsake ...read more

Who is Melchizedek? How did Abraham honor him? Are we going to honor our King Jesus this Christmas?

Why should we follow God? Today we’re going to see the freedom that comes from following God, and the imprisonment of following the world and its ways. Our message today is about real faith, not the kind we say in a prayer when we decide that church isn’t so bad and I think I can be a ...read more
