Contributed by Ross Cochrane on Aug 23, 2010
    based on 71 ratings

Abimelech, probably thinking that he can form an alliance with Abraham who is a wealthy man, decides to take Sarah into his harem. Abimelech may be the CO-STAR in this movie but he deserves the Oscar.

Part 4 - Genesis 20:1-18 - BUT IT'S NOT MY FAULT! I DIDN'T DO IT! "IT'S NOT MY FAULT! I DIDN'T DO IT!" I remember my protests fell on deaf ears and I was made to go to my room without dinner until I confessed. My mother insisted that it was me, probably because of the lie my sister told her. I ...read more

  • Part 3 - Genesis 20:1-18 - Lie Like The Devil? Series

Contributed by Ross Cochrane on Aug 17, 2010
    based on 42 ratings

To me the real star in this soap opera scenario in Genesis 20 is not the beautiful 90 year old heroine. It’s not the big business tycoon with a LYING PROBLEM. It’s the UNDER-DOG who gets caught up in a life and death struggle by mistake.

Part 3 - Genesis 20:1-18 – LIE LIKE THE DEVIL OR…? She is 90 years old, BEAUTIFUL. SARAH catches your attention. The perfect Hollywood star, aging gracefully and looking years younger without the use of LIPOSUCTION, HAIR COLOURING, BREAST IMPLANTS, FACELIFTS and all the rest, Sarah doesn’t even ...read more

  • Part 2 - Genesis 20:1-18 - Scanning For A Trojan Horse! Series

Contributed by Ross Cochrane on Aug 14, 2010
    based on 31 ratings

Genesis 20 in my Bible teaches me THAT BELIEVERS HAVE TROJAN HORSES. I knew that already from other parts of the Bible. Satan is the original HACKER and Adam and Eve fell for the Trojan Horse, installing unwanted data into the system.

Part 2 - Genesis 20:1-18 - SCANNING FOR A TROJAN HORSE! TROJAN HORSE! It appears innocent enough, but it is a harmful piece of software that looks legitimate. It tricks people into loading the wrong things into their systems. It gives a hacker access to cause damage. Unless you have a good ...read more

Contributed by Ross Cochrane on Aug 12, 2010
    based on 13 ratings

With a croaky voice filled with the bile of his past and exposed by his dementia he shouted "He's a fraud! He's a fraud! Don't listen to him! Don't listen to him! He only wants your money! He's a fraud!" It was disconcerting to say the least.

Part 1 - Genesis 20:1-10 - HE'S A FRAUD! HE'S A FRAUD! Diary entry - "Full circle! Here I am again. Dealing with the same old things over and over in my life. You would think that eventually I would get it - that God wants to fulfill His purposes in my life if only I'd GET OFF THE ROUND-A-BOUT. ...read more

Contributed by Jim Butcher on Mar 3, 2006
    based on 48 ratings

This passage uses Abraham’s deception as a chance to look at why we fudge the truth so often and what the consequences of our lies are.

    - Lies are a common part of our everyday lives. In fact, some of us believe that we can’t function in society without telling our share of “little white lies.” - Abraham here demonstrates aptly for us both the reasons we lie and the consequences of our untruths. WHY WE LIE: 1. We get ...read more

Prayer is a wonderful thing. But prayer is not just to be used to get us out of trouble; it is to be used to keep us from getting in trouble.

Abraham in Gerar. Genesis 20. 01/19/05 We find in our text another great failure on the part of Abraham. Actually, this is the third major failure of Abraham recorded in scripture after he came into the land of Canaan. The first of these failures was his lie in Egypt that Sarah was his ...read more

Contributed by Rick Duncan on Feb 10, 2003
    based on 28 ratings

In this message, we learn how even evangelicals can be guilty of violating the 2nd commandment. When we do, we minimize God and magnify our problems.

The war on terrorism. The impending attack on Iraq. An economy that can’t quite seem to get back on track. How are you handling the uncertainty of all that? Add this to the typical stresses in life. Problems with relationships at home, work, or school. A fear of not getting the job done ...read more
