Peter Falk (1927-2011), who died just a few years ago, will always be remembered for the role he played as an eccentric, sloppy detective in the TV series called “Columbo.” More often than not, he played dumb, but that put his subjects off guard, and he was always able to solve his cases as a ...read more

Life is full of choices. Our choices will affect our future destiny. We must learn to make the right choices with regards to the people we associate and with our duties before God and family.

THE CHOICES WE MAKE We are now in Genesis 38. This is the story of Judah and Tamar. Not too many preachers talk about this chapter because this is like a parenthesis from the story of Joseph. One whole chapter devoted about the life and sin of Judah while Joseph was sold to Potiphar in ...read more

  • Genesis 38:1-30

Contributed by John Shearhart on Jan 23, 2014

Not only do we have to wait for the conclusion of the first story but we might not even care about the new one. It’s tempting to skip past Genesis 38 because we want to know what ...read more

This story of Judah and Tamar reminds us that God’s grace comes in spite of our sin - even through our sin. Grace overcomes the mess that we make of our lives and provides us with something that we could never provide for ourselves.

There are many passages in the Bible that are difficult to preach. Genesis 38 is right up there at the top of the list. It’s not BORING It’s not DEEP THEOLOGY It’s not IRRELEVANT Simply put, it’s TOO RACY! But the story must be told, because it’s an amazing story about GRACE. The story ...read more
