  • The Choices That We Make

Life is full of choices. Our choices will affect our future destiny. We must learn to make the right choices with regards to the people we associate and with our duties before God and family.

THE CHOICES WE MAKE We are now in Genesis 38. This is the story of Judah and Tamar. Not too many preachers talk about this chapter because this is like a parenthesis from the story of Joseph. One whole chapter devoted about the life and sin of Judah while Joseph was sold to Potiphar in ...read more

Judah finds both repentance, and amendment of life

THE TESTIMONY OF JUDAH Genesis 44:18-34 I have often wondered why the account of Joseph’s plight in Egypt is interrupted by a chapter about his half-brother Judah (Genesis 38). However, this part of the narrative (Genesis 37-50) is headed ‘the generations of Jacob’ (Genesis ...read more

  • Genesis 38:1-30

Contributed by John Shearhart on Jan 23, 2014
     | 4,483 views

If grace is truly grace then it’s only given to those who don’t deserve it. And if God’s promise is to be kept then it can’t depend on those who need grace. This again points us to Christ who is our only hope.

It can be pretty frustrating when a story reaches its climax only to be interrupted by an entirely new story. Not only do we have to wait for the conclusion of the first story but we might not even care about the new one. It’s tempting to skip past Genesis 38 because we want to know what ...read more

  • What’s So Amazing About Grace? Series

Contributed by Paul Barreca on Apr 12, 2013
    based on 4 ratings

This story of Judah and Tamar reminds us that God’s grace comes in spite of our sin - even through our sin. Grace overcomes the mess that we make of our lives and provides us with something that we could never provide for ourselves.

There are many passages in the Bible that are difficult to preach. Genesis 38 is right up there at the top of the list. It’s not BORING It’s not DEEP THEOLOGY It’s not IRRELEVANT Simply put, it’s TOO RACY! But the story must be told, because it’s an amazing story about GRACE. The story ...read more

  • Perfect… You’re Not Perfect… ~ God

God doesn't perfect us... then bring us into the church and into church leadership. He perfects us through change, challenge and allows His will to be done through imperfect people.

Have you ever felt like life never goes the way you plan it? In my life, I had plans to do different things. When I was young, before even being a teen I wanted to be a professional football player. I used to play backyard football with all my friends and with my favorite cousin, Tim. We would win ...read more

  • Studies In Genesis: Chapter 37 Series

This is a study of the book of Genesis. Genesis and Revelation are two of the most disputed books in the Bible. The premise of this study is the foundation of creation.

Note: When doing a study on a book in the Bible you use a lot of resources. The major influence for me on this study of Genesis is The Genesis Record by Henry Morris. Genesis 37 1. And Jacob dwelt in the land wherein his father was a stranger, in the land of Canaan. 2 These [are] the ...read more

Peter Falk (1927-2011), who died just this last June, will always be remembered for the role he played as an eccentric, sloppy detective in the TV series called “Columbo.” More often than not, he played dumb, but that put his subjects off guard, and he was always able to solve his ...read more

Contributed by Paul Clemente on Jun 1, 2009

When we say “we are simply saved by grace”, aren’t we saying that we really owe everything to God?

Last week we talked about Genesis 37 which talks about the beginning of the story of God’s hero, Joseph. As we will note, there is no mention of Joseph in Genesis 38 and Joseph’s story continues in Genesis 39. God takes a break in telling the story of Joseph with a story about Judah and Tamar. What ...read more
