When Jesus says, “You are the salt of the earth” He is speaking of our conduct and character while yet living in this sin-cursed world. He is saying we are different or we ought to be different and live different than the rest of the world.
“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.” (NIV.)
