Last week we looked at the first two temptations of Jesus in Matt. 4:1-7. Today we finish by getting into vss. 8-11.
THE BATTLE IN THE DESERT (part two) Matthew 4:8-11 Last week we started looking into the temptation of Jesus in Matt. 4. We learned in vs. 1 that Jesus was led into the desert by the Holy Spirit to be tempted. Although that seems odd, we see it was for a purpose. Jesus was about to embark on his ...read more

What tempts you? How do you resist? We often find it difficult to not give in. Let's follow Jesus into the desert as he experiences the same temptations as we do.

The angels were messengers, mighty, many, and ministered to Jesus.
In the life of Jesus, we see the messengers of God, called angels. It was their mission to be God's supernatural communicators to people. Hebrews 1:14 called them "ministering spirits to those who will inherit salvation." They are described as personality, with intelligence and look ...read more

Trust God to send His angels to minister to you in your time of need.
One Sunday evening, Marilyn Clark of Cincinnati, Ohio, overheard her 5-year-old daughter, Julie, practicing “Hark the Herald Angels Sing.” It was a song she'd been rehearsing that morning in church for the next week's Christmas program. But something wasn’t quite right. In place of the ...read more

In this message I use Satan's temptation of Jesus to demonstrate three key areas we need to be in balance in: physical needs, relationship with God and others, and power and riches.
Maintaining Balance Scripture: Matthew 4:1-11; Philippians 4:11-13 The title of my message this morning is “Maintaining Balance.” Recently I completed a series titled the “Four Seasons of Life.” In that series I explained that we go through seasons as we shift closer to or away from Christ. Our ...read more

In our fallen world, Satan goes about like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour - which means that mature disciples of Christ must of necessity have a battle plan for dealing with the threats Satan constantly hurls at us.
HOW WE WISH IT WERE NOT SO, BUT IT IS! When tragedy strikes, whether personal as when a loved one loses his life in an accident, or national as was the horrific massacre in Las Vegas, how we wish it were not so! As ...read more
First Sunday in Lent. The sermon is about how our temptations in life can give us information about ourselves, and the world.
Temptation is Information Temptations are too much for some people to handle. I heard a few years ago a 340lb man sued a hospital for 900k, claiming it ruined his gastric stapling operation. The man underwent weight loss surgery to cure his overeating. The surgeon implanted 70 tiny staples to ...read more

What happens when you do not have a map for your faith journey?
What if we viewed our faith journey like a road trip? A few weeks ago, I was busily preparing for my journey to North Carolina. I programmed the destination in my GPS, fueled up the truck (yes, I said truck), checked where construction delays were, and of course made sure I had snacks and ...read more
