Everyone gets tempted. Where does it come from, how does it work, what can we do?

Tempted 1 Corinthians 10:13 I remember back in 1977, when I got my first new car, the price of unleaded gasoline was .60 per gallon. There was speculation in the media that the price would soon top $1. Well, being 20 years old and believing that I knew everything there was to know (like every ...read more

Having grown up in hte desert, I know how harsh the place is and how tempting the options presented by hte devil really are. On the surface the temptations seem harmless and perhaps even good in the right hands but they all take our attention off God.

I grew up going to the desert, and thought that I knew what the desert lands are all about. I’ve been camping many times in the Anza Berrego wilderness and understand that the desert is a harsh and foreboding place. I know to stay on the trails, look for snakes and take lots of extra water. I ...read more

Last week we left our new friend Joseph on a slow moving caravan towards Egypt with a bunch of Midianites. We all face temptation, but with the Word of God, we have a way to escape falling into sin.

Text: “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it” (1 Corinthians 10:13). Why would Paul give this ...read more

If you, then, will worship me, it will all be yours." And Jesus ...read more

    Temptation - Fasting - Lent - Temptation - Forgiveness

Our text today tells us that Jesus was fasting. It should be obvious that I am not an expert on fasting, but I can answer a couple common questions. Should we fast? Jesus never commands us to fast, but he assumes that we will. In Matthew 6:16 he says “When you fast” not “If you fast”. “When ...read more

Understand the nature of the temptations Satan throws before you, fight them with God’s word and seek forgiveness from Jesus when you fail, knowing that he understands what it’s like to be tempted.

Do you ever wonder whether these temptations of Jesus were a fair test. After all, he was the Son of God, so Satan was out of his league really, wasn’t he? It wasn’t like you or me being tempted. I mean Satan hardly has to lift a finger and we give in. But then we’re a lot weaker than Jesus. But ...read more
