“Someone to write about”

Acts 3:1-10 (15 Feb 09)

Video: Ordinary people

Have you ever wanted to be one of those guys? One of those guys that everyone is talking about around of dinner table? You know one of those guys fired up for Jesus. On fire for the Lord. Passionate about their faith and letting the world know the life changing choice that we are all given an opportunity to answer. The people on the video are like that. There are still people like that. There was nothing incredible about them. There weren’t smarter than the rest of us. They were not more handsome than the rest of us. The thing that set them apart from the ho-hum was that they were ready, willing and able.

1. Be at the right place, right time – everyday and everywhere is the right with God

One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer—at three in the afternoon. Now a man crippled from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those going into the temple courts.

a. They were doing what they were supposed to do. Be ready for a God moment. God doesn’t works on his timeline. Pray for an opportunity to serve Him.

2. Be alert and ready to work in and out of season. Illustration-kids eating ice cream

When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money. Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said, "Look at us!" So the man gave them his attention, expecting to get something from them.

3. Be ready to give away of yourself. Jesus never said it was going to be easy. In fact everything he said was that it was going to be the most difficult undertaking of your life.

Then Peter said, "Silver or gold I do not have, but what I have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk." Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong. He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God.

a. When given the opportunity you need to give the right things. When given the chance don’t dish out sarcasm….hope. Don’t give more turmoil….peace. Don’t give harsh words….comfort. Don’t be the one that gives as the world gives. Gives as Jesus has already given to you out of love.

b. Don’t give them what they expect. Give them what you have. The Word.

4. Give God the praise He deserves.

When all the people saw him walking and praising God, they recognized him as the same man who used to sit begging at the temple gate called Beautiful, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.
