Steps to Victory

1 Corinthians 15:57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

1. Vigilance

A, 1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: sober = level headed, vigilant = keep awake

1. Why, Satan...

B. Romans 13:14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof

1. Put on Jesus Christ = Put on His righteousness

2. Make not provision for the flesh to fulfil the evil desires

3. How you dress can ill this.

C. 1Th 5:22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.

D. Satan is public enemy #1 especially to the saved.

1. As a Roaring Lion.

2. Imagine the Consequences

A. Satan wants to take all the good out of your life.

B. Notice how he does this. Lu 22:31 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:

C. Job 4:8 Even as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, and sow wickedness, reap the same.

D. Ga 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

E. There are Spiritual, Emotional and Physically consequences to sin.

3. Call Out to God

A. When you called out to God for salvation, Did He hear you? Rom. 10:13. He continues to hear you now also.

B. Peter - Lu 22:32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.

C. Jesus prays for our VICTORY! And James says “The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” Jesus’s prayer has great power/ wonderful results.

D. Most of us cry out to God after the sin, have you ever thought about calling on him before or during the temptation?

E. Notice what the model pray says. Mt 6:13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

4. Take Thoughts into Captivity

A. 2 Cor. 10:3-5 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: [4] (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) [5] Casting down [suppressing] imaginations [thoughts], and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

B. Temptation comes like the serpent in the garden, saying, “ye shall not surely die…you’ll become as Gods!”

C. This is the kind of thoughts to cast down during temptation.

D. Pr 14:14 The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways:

E. Thoughts become desires, Desires become Actions, Actions produce Habits, Habits become your life. But notice it all starts in our thoughts. Our thinking. Phil 4:8

F. The most dangerous form of LSD: Lust-Sin-Death!

5. Omnipresence of God

A. Omnipresence means He sees it all, Omniscience means He knows it all, and Omnipotence means…He’s All Powerful.

B. Psalm 139:2 Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.

C. Mt 9:4 And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts?

D. Not only does he see the sin, but he see the thoughts that go into it. “The Backslider in Heart”

E. Look at Prov. 14:14 again

F. He also sees the act of sin. – David – Psalms 51

G. God sees all...

1. The sin we do

2. The work we don’t do

3. The fence sitter

6. Rely on the Scriptures

A. Psalm 119:11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

B. Memorize, meditate Josh. 1:8 Meditate means chew the cud

C. 1 Cor. 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

D. God will bring the verses to mind if they’re in your heart!

E. The Bible is a sword…an offensive weapon w/ which to resist the devil and fight against him.

F. The More God you put in, the More sin you put out.

G. A nicer way to say this is the More God you digest the More sin you will vomit out.

H. Do you want VICTORY over...

1. Drugs. Alcohol, Sex, Laziness, Gossip

2. Walk closer to God and you will walk further from sin.
