Summary: We need to keep the gifts inside of us stired up
3 I thank God, whom I serve with a pure conscience, as my forefathers did,
as without ceasing I remember you in my prayers night and day,
4 greatly desiring to see you, being mindful of your tears, that I may be filled with joy,
5 when I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded in you also.
6 Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands.
7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
Paul’s wrights to Timothy and his message is simple
He tell’s Timothy to Stir Up The Gift That Is In Him
In other words he is telling him: You need to wake up….
You need to start fanning the flams
Paul told him that because:
He knows that every Christian who has been filled with the Holy Spirit
They have the power to either quench the Spirit
Or to fan into a flame that burns red hot
It is evident that Paul understood that it wasn’t enough to receive this gift
But the gift must stay active.
That doesn’t mean you was baptized in the spirit when you was 14 and haven’t felt Him since…
That doesn’t mean you use to pray in the Spirit
And now you just don’t feel like it
That doesn’t mean the spirit use to guide you but He don’t anymore
You are either fanning the flam
Or you are pouring water on it..
You are either letting the Spirit guide you or You are guiding your own life..
You are either on fire for the Lord
Or you’re not
Like the old song says:
When you’re hot you’re hot
When you’re Not you’re not
As your Pastor, I feel a lot like Paul this morning
If I could write each of you a letter I would beg you
To Stir up the Spirit….
This gift must be stirred.
This gift must be activated.
Stop waiting on a great service to start praising Him
Stop waiting on a feeling to get you moving
Paul said Timothy it’s your responsibility to keep it burning
It’s not up to the pastor
It’s not up to the worship leader
It’s not up to the size of the crowd
It’s not up to how you feel
It’s not based on what song they are singing
The Holy Spirit is not activated by your emotions
He response to your surrender…
That's why you haven’t felt Him in a long time
That's why you have lost your boldness to witness to the lost
It’s because you have forgotten how to surrender to Him..
Let me tell you something
This HolySpirit was not giving to you so you could just make it to church on Sundays
It wasn’t giving to you so you could just back your way into heaven..
He gave you this Gift so you could have the boldness to GOOOOO……Win the Lost
Preaching and teaching baptizing
He gave you this gift so you could tell people you work with about what all He has done for you…
So many get the Gift of the Spirit confused with emotion
That's why you see them run around the church rolling on the floor
Speaking in tongues flopping like a fish
When their favorite song comes on
But they never take the gift outside of the church
They never tell anyone about what God is doing in life
They never witness to anyone
They never opened their Bibles
But when the feeling hits them they act on their emotion
Thats the only time they have this Gift…
Thats why Paul was telling Timothy
You have to stir up the Gift…
Stop waiting on the move of the Spirit
He is always moving
In our text
It is also evident that Timothy was responsible for keeping the gift stirred and active.
It was Timothy’s responsibility to keep the fire burning
Not his momma
(He was the Keeper of the Flame)
I want to say to every person hearing my voice,
The most important thing that can happen in your life is to meet the Lord Jesus Christ,
To be forgiven of your sins,
To become a child of God,
And to be redeemed by the blood of the lamb
That is the single most important thing that can happen to a human being.
I don’t care how religious you are
You must be born again
You must come through the blood
I don’t care how well you know the bible,
Or what church you belong to you
