Summary: As Christians we need to know that our prayers are heard.

Teach us to Pray

Lu. 11:1 And it came to pass that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray as John also taught his disciples.

2 And he said unto them, When ye pray say Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come Thy will be done as in heaven, so in earth.

3 Give us day by day our daily bread.

4 And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.

5 And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves;

6 For a friend of mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him?

7 And he from within shall answer and say Trouble me not: the door is now shut and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee.

8 I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth

9 And I say unto you, Ask and it shall be given you; seek and ye shall find knock and it shall be opened unto you.

10 For every one that asketh receiveth and he that seeketh findeth and to him that knocketh it shall be opened

11 If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent?

12 Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion?

13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

As followers of Christ we should want to learn how to pray and get results.

Here one of the disciples said John taught his disciples to pray so you do the same.

We need to learn how to pray and get results.

Most Christians are not taught how to pray, they only copy patterns of prayers that we have heard others pray.

There is a right way to pray and a wrong way to pray.

Words are powerful,

Pr 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

If you pray “Lord whatever it takes for me to draw close to you” You opened your self up to a field day for the Devil. (There is a proper way to get CLOSE without letting the devil beat you up.)

Begging and complains is not Prayer.

Gossip about your friends and sins are not praying.

It is not proper prayer just because you are at an altar or just because you raise your hands.

You must pray PROPER if you want POSTIVE RESULTS.

We need to learn HOW, WHY, HOW TO BE EFFECTIVE IN PRAYER.

Everybody Prays.

Sinners pray to win the Lottery. Criminals pray for a lenient Judge. Christians pray for things.

Many cases Christians cannot tell you for sure that they prayed and God answered.

A Lady announced she was going on a diet to her office workers. The next day she showed up with a DOUBLE CHOLATE CREAM CAKE. Someone asked her if that was on her diet. She said “It was God’s will for her to eat the cake!”

She said she saw it in a bakery window and she prayed if it was God’s will for her to have that cake make a parking place directly in front of the bakery, on the 10th time around a place was open.

This was not an answer to prayer. Answer to prayer is when you ask and you get what you ask for without you changing it.

The Word gives us clear instructions about prayer.

Jas 4:3 Ye ask and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

The scripture is clear here that a selfish prayer will not be answered

God wants to answer your prayers but is not willing to meet a selfish desire.

Jas 5:15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick and the Lord shall raise him up and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

Not just any prayer but the PRAYER OF FAITH.

Mr 11:24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire when ye pray believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
