Summary: There are some wonderful examples in the Bible of motherhood and the mother od Moses is a great example of this.

That’s My Mother

Exodus 2:1-10

I grew in an environment that is very different from today it appears. Our culture has changed a great deal. The old TV shows promoted respect; honor and authority of parents were as today we are seeing the opposite televised. My parents have had a lot of influence in my life and I am so grateful for them. Today I want to focus our attention toward one of them in whom we call “Mother or Mom”.

Where would I be without her input into my life? I truly do not know

Here in our text we read of a mother name Jochebed the mother of Moses. Every child deserves to have a mother as Jochebed and when I study this woman’s life I say “That’s My Mother”.

See: Vs.1-2 She saw that he was a goodly child

Goodly: beautiful or good looking

You tell me what mother in her right mind who does feel this way about any of her children?

1. A Mother Sees The Good In Her Children

Mention: Hebrews 11:23 A proper child

I personally believe not only did she see the beauty of Moses, but she saw his potentials!

She believed as with all of her children that God would do something special with him.

Perhaps you have not met her but “That’s My Mother”

2. A Mother Protects Her Children

See: Exodus 1:15-16 Every male child born was to be kill by the order of Pharaoh

Mention: Exodus 2:2 She hid Moses for three months

Mention: Hebrews 11:23 Not afraid of the king’s commandment

There are a lot of dangers in our world today that threatens the well being of children and the protection of a mother is so needful.

Point: I look at times to nature when I seek some type of divine order and what I see is the mother’s of nature protecting their young from the potential danger.

See: Prov. 31:1-9 Solomon’s mom Bathsheba constantly warned him

Mention: Titus 2:5 Keepers at home

Solomon Rosenburg: He was taken with his family to a Nazi concentration camp. His father and mother were killed because they were not able to work. He knew one day his son would be killed because he was very frail. He would search for his family every night returning from labor and would thank God for another day of life when he saw their faces. One day he saw his son Joshua in a corner crying and found out that David had become too weak to work that day and they took him.

See: Psalms 113:9 He maketh the barren woman to keep house…

3. A Mother Trains Her Children

See: Exodus 2:7-8

A larger percentage of a child’s training especially in the early years is that which is taught by their mother.

See: 2 Tim. 1:5-6

Mention: 2 Tim. 3:15 from a child thou hast known the Holy Scriptures.

Prov. 29:15 a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame

I am convinced that those early years of training was vital in his decision making later in life.

Prov. 22:6 train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he shall not depart from it.

Mention: Hebrews 11:24-29

4. A Mother Who Knows When To Let Go

Vs.10 And when the child grew she brought him unto Pharaoh’s daughter

One of the difficult things to do for parents and especially mothers is to let their children navigate through life on their own when the time comes.

See: 1 Samuel 1:24-28 Here Hannah weans Samuel and lets him go

Perhaps you have not met her but “That’s My Mother”

5. A Mother That Is Godly

This mother fears God above all.

Prov. 31:30 Favour is deceitful and beauty is vain: but the woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.
