THE MESSAGE

1. THE PASSION OF THE CROSS

***************************************

The death of Christ on the cross demonstrates the love and the passion of God towards mankind. While we were yet sinners Christ died for us. We must beleive

with all our hearts how much God loves us when we meditate on the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, the Son of God

JOHN 3:16

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

1 JOHN 3:1

How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us

is that it did not know him.

ROMANS 5:6-8

You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.

Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die.

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

2. THE PURPOSE OF THE CROSS

*******************************************

We must understand the purpose and the meaning of the death of Christ on the cross. He died as our substitute taking the punishment of our sins and making an

atonement for our sins. He appeased the wrath of God against sin by taking it upon Himself as a propitiation.

He reconciled us to God and restored our relationship with God. He paid the ransom for us and redeemed us from the devil. He justified us and not only

forgave our sins but also made us righteous in the sight of God. He adopted us as children in the family of God and made us joint-heirs with Him.

ISAIAH 53:5-6

But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are

healed.

We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

2 CORINTHIANS 5:21

God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

1 PETER 3:18

For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit,

ATONEMENT

***************

1 JOHN 2:2

He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.

HEBREWS 10:8-10

First he said, "Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not desire, nor were you pleased with them" (although the law required

them to be made).

Then he said, "Here I am, I have come to do your will." He sets aside the first to establish the second.
