The Authority Of The Word

Summary: Without the Word, we’re powerless.
Discussing the Authority of the word of God
Every Good thing you get—
only come through the word
I want to get across--- the word should be the most important thing in your walk with Christ
I want to bring to mind the things we wrongly place over THE WORD
1. Preachers
2. Physical Performance
3. Prayer
1. Preachers- God calls people to share his word
1 Thess. - 16Rejoice always, 17pray without ceasing, 18in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
19Do not quench the Spirit. 20Do not despise prophecies. 21Test all things; hold fast what is good. 22Abstain from every form of evil.
Today’s church has exalted preachers over the WORD
They say it we believe it.
“Bro. Shane We trust You”
Great, Awesome,
But- Don’t trust me more than God
I’ve said it before:
“I will fail You” Spiritually, physically,
I will fail you
If the word is in you--- You won’t blame God for me failing
You’ll know from the word-Forgive Me-Forgive yourself-move on
You ask-Aren’t we suppose to trust preachers,
yes – but not more than the Word
ROMANS 3:4 “Let God be True, & every man a liar.”
ROMANS 10: 17So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Faith comes by hearing….Period
I Heard: God Doesn’t Do that, God’s mad at you, Miracles don’t exist, Sickness comes because God’s mad,
Many of you have heard: You’re no good, you’ll never be a good wife, and Son you’re stupid
BY HEARING THOSE THINGS---faith came
Faith that you were nothing
People say, “I DON’T BELIEVE IN SPIRITUAL GIFTS, HEALING ETC….”
Their faith came by hearing that
TRUE FAITH- COMES BY HEARING THE WORD OF GOD
8And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. 9Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth,
I will praise You with my whole heart;
Before the gods I will sing praises to You.
2I will worship toward Your holy temple,
And praise Your name
For Your lovingkindness and Your truth;
For You have magnified Your word above all Your name.
God has places his word, HIGHER than his name
2Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, 3as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, 4by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
Grace and peace come through the knowledge of Jesus
How does that come- Thru hearing the WORD.
If a preacher is a person of God…HE will want you get in the word
He will want you to question, check, see if he’s right
2. Physical Performance-
21 Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.
22But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror
I believe we should be hearers and doers
This goes back to “What if what we’ve heard is wrong.”
LISTEN: Serving God is a condition of the HEART
God has never been impressed by our actions—
When God looks for something- IT MUST BE PERFECT
Righteousness, Holiness, Performance
This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
3. Prayer- Got Christians praying all the time
If you’re praying and not reading, and receiving the word
YOU’RE WASTING YOUR TIME
If you pray, fast, cast out demons, pray in the SPIRIT—
You’re wasting time---If the word is not in YOU
Matthew 21: 21So Jesus answered and said to them, "Assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but also if you say to this mountain, "Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ it will be done. 22And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive."
