Summary: This benediction (composed from various songs, scriptures and traditions) encourages believers to bless God and asks God's blessings upon them. This is shared in honor of my birth church - The New Metropolitan Baptist Church - where it was composed.

The Benediction

Praise God from whom all blessings flow!

Praise God from whom all blessings flow!

Praise God from whom all blessings flow! - Why? Because:

God and God alone created everything we call our own;

From the mighty to the small, the glory of them all, is God’s and God’s alone.

Praise God from whom all blessings flow! - Why? Because:

God and God alone, reveals the truth to all we call unknown;

And the best and worst of man cannot change the Master’s plan, because it’s God’s and God’s alone.

Praise God from whom all blessings flow! - Why? Because:

God and God alone will be the joy of our eternal home;

He will be our one desire; our hearts will never tire of God and God alone.

Praise God from whom all blessings flow! - Why? Because:

God and God alone – upholds all things by the word of His power;

God and God alone – has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ Jesus;

God and God alone – is the lifter of our heads.

So praise Him, whom the Old Testament Jews called:

Jehovah Jirah,

Jehovah Nissi,

Jehovah Rapha,

Jehovah Shalom,

Jehovah Tsidkenu.

Praise Him, whom the New Testament Jews called Yeshua H’ Mashiyach.

And praise Him, whom the Greeks called Iesou Christos

Now my African-American ancestors could speak neither Hebrew nor Greek,

So using the metaphors of Divine deliverance, couched in Ebonic Poetry, they called Him:

Granddaddy’s walking stick;

A mighty good leaning post;

A rock in a weary land;

A shelter in the time of storm.

Praise God from whom all blessings flow! - Why? Because:

God makes us walk like we are rich, when we don’t have a nickel to our names;

God allows us to sleep on a pillow of peace and relax on a cushion of confidence;

God opens the doors that no man can shut and He shuts the doors that no man can open;

And if you are running behind schedule, God and God alone will keep the door open until you get through.

I praise Him because He is the King.

I praise Him because He is the Lamb.

He is the Lion of Judah,

And the seed of Abraham,

The Holy One, God’s Only Son,

He is the King of whom I am!

Praise God from whom all blessing flow,

Praise Him all creatures here below,

Praise Him above, ye heavenly hosts,

Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost!

Be blessed in the Name of the Father,

Be blessed in the Name of the Son,

Be blessed in the Name of the Holy Spirit,

Be blessed in the Name of the Three-In-One!

Amen!
