Discovering the Promises Of God

“The Bow In The Sky”

Genesis 9:8-17

1-26-2020AM

As we discover the many promises that the Lord has given to us we must stop and take note of a very special promise that the Lord made with Noah and is still active today.

It is important to know why God made such a promise so we will dip back in the Bible for a few moments.

I. The Sin Of Man Genesis 6:5-7

1. And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth,

“The unity of the race is a consistent doctrine of the O.T.

It was, man, (Adam) when created as a single individual.

It spread over the earth, and was still, man.”

2. And that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

The word “imagination” means “form,” “formation,” or “shape,” and, as applied to the region of thought, denotes “an idea,” or “the concept of thought,”

“Continually” Literally, “all the day.”

Man’s sinfulness is thus described as universal and continues.

The beginnings of “sin” are seen in the picture of the fall in Chap. 3,

its spread in the murderous act of Cain, Chap. 4;

As we have reached this passage we see its complete and unrestrained expansion.

II. The Grace Of God

Genesis 6:8 “But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.”

We understand GRACE as undeserved favor from a Holy God.

And this is as true today as it was then with Noah.

How did this Grace find its way into Noah’s life?

Gen 6:9 These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.

We are told that Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations.

This little thought of a “just man” may seem to embolden a man who wants to prove to God how holy he is without any help from God.

Not so!

Just man in its root finds that a man must be made right

In order to be righteous.

That is why we see a just man was “cleansed, to be put or made right, be justified.”

There is only one way into God’s holy lineup.

That is salvation.!!!!

Perfect in his generations = without blemish, to be finished, be spent, be consumed, be destroyed

When we are saved it is finished and we are now holy in God’s sight.

The work of salvation is never in self it is in Christ!

And when Christ is finished in us with salvation we are perfect.

III. Orders Given and Orders Followed. Genesis 6:22

I do not have time to preach through the making and entering of the Ark.

Allow me a short statement.

I found nowhere that Noah invited or was told to invite any other person or animal aboard the Ark but what God told him to bring.

Genesis 7:1 “And the LORD said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation.”

IV. Noah and Family Leave The Ark Genesis 8:18-22

The LORD smelled a sweet savour = an offering to God

Noah remembered the GRACE God had given him and he worshiped the LORD.

V. The Covenant With Man. Genesis 9:8-17

The bow in the shy!

It took a while to get to the main point but here it is-

Covenant = alliance, pledge to be kept as long as one of the party is still living it must be honored.

Halleluiah!!!!!

And His reminder will be perpetual (everlasting).

Did you know that the U.S. Patent Office will not allow a patent for a perpetual motor? They say there is no such thing. HMMMMM????

Looks to me God says there is such a thing as everlasting but it is not in a manmade machine, but in the GRACE of an almighty GOD!

Just as manmade attempt of salvation will always end in dysfunction and destruction; God’s salvation always, always, ALWAYS leads through the cross of Christ and is forever.

Conclusion:

Promise Made; Promise Kept!

Halleluiah what a Saviour.

Do you know Him?
