THE MESSAGE

THE CALL AND COMMISSION OF ISAIAH

1. BACKGROUND:

Isaiah.6:1.

Here we find a period of crisis. The king has died. The nation is in turmoil and confusion. It is a transition time. There must have been feverish activity by many who wanted a say in the Government. Conspiracies, secret counsels, mobilising supporters and many other such power struggles would have taken place. The common man would have been in a state of confusion surrounded by many rumours and requests, wondering about the future of his life and of the nation. This was the background in which we find Isaiah.

2. BEHOLDING:

Isaiah.6:1-4.

In the midst of such a situation Isaiah saw the Lord. He did not plunge into feverish activity and join the human plans and conspiracies. He saw the Lord high and lifted up. The ultimate ruler of every situation is the Lord himself. He decides the fate of nations and every situation.

3. BLEMISH:

Isaiah.6:5. James 1:26, 3:2-8, Proverbs.18:21, 26:20-28 Matthew.12:36-37, 7:24-27 .

As soon as he saw the holiness of God be realized the sinfulness of his life and his people. The sins of his lips convicted him. Our tongue is very important to our spiritual life. In the house of God it is important that we come with a pure heart to listen and obey the word of God.

4. BLOTTING:

Isaiah.6:6,7. Isaiah.1:18,19.

Here the Lord cleanses his servant and makes him worthy of his calling. When we come to the Lord he will cleanse us and though our sins are as scarlet he will make them white as snow and though our sins are red like crimson they will be as wool. This is how the Lord will completely transform our lives and remove our sins from us

5. BURDEN:

Isaiah.6:8-10.

After the Lord purified and prepared Isaiah, he placed a burden and responsibility upon his life. When Isaiah heard the call of God, he responded in humility and obedience and God commissioned him for his service. It was a difficult task as he had to face a rebellious and disobedient people who had strayed far from God. But Isaiah obeyed God and entered his service.
