Summary: What the cross means to you and I.

THE CROSS OF JESUS CHRIST

1st Corinthians 1: 17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.

18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

(1) The cross was a display of human hatred.

Acts 4: 25 Who by the mouth of thy servant David hast said, Why did the heathen rage, and the people imagine vain things?

26 The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against his Christ.

(2) Declaration God’s righteousness.

Romans 3: 24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

(3) Triumph over Satan’s power.

Hebrews 11; 28 Through faith he kept the passover, and the sprinkling of blood, lest he that destroyed the firstborn should touch them.

29 By faith they passed through the Red sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians assaying to do were drowned.

30 By faith the walls of Jericho fell down, after they were compassed about seven days.

Man’s probation is closed.

God’s heart is revealed.

Heavens character is cleared.

(4) Hell’s defeat is here assured.

Jesus tasted death for all.

Romans 5; 17 For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)

1st Timothy 2: 6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

(4) He procured forgiveness for all.

Acts 13: 37 But he, whom God raised again, saw no corruption.

38 Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins:

(5) Preach deliverance to all

Luke 4: 18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

(6) He brought Salvation to all.

Titus 2: 11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
