THE DANGER OF MEDIOCRITY

Revelation 3:14-22

October 22, 2006

Broadway Baptist Church

Rev Dan Bauder

INTRODUCTION

I want to start this morning by thanking everyone who came to the work day yesterday. We had a good turn out and a lot was accomplished. I also want to thank God for placing Debbie and I in a church where we are loved and appreciated. We truly are a loving church family.

The Laodicean church was no different than most churches in the USA today. We enjoy prosperity like very few other nations. Yet, just like Laodicea, most churches today have become self-reliant.

I. VERY FEW CHURCHES TODAY TOTALLY RELY ON GOD (Read Rev 3:17)

A. Some have even taken Jesus out of the salvation equation.

1. church attendance and involvement has become paramount

a. I don’t want to appear unspiritual

2. Some preacher show their seminary diploma as proof of their calling

3. Some churches promote this by requiring pastors to have a seminary diploma.

B. God’s will is determined by their wealth or lack of it (Laodicea was a wealthy city known for its banking industry and Medical center. Read Rev 3:18)

C. Some have paid staff to work for them (It’s the preachers job)

D. Most flat out refuse to walk by faith

CONCLUSION

(Read Rev 3:20) This verse doesn’t just refer to those who are lost. As long as we are still breathing we haven’t arrived spirituallyJesus is continually knocking at our hearts door wanting us to continue growing in our relationship with Him
