The Details of Being Born Again

John 3:1-3

I. Being Born Again Means You Are Redeemed

“In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins according to riches of His grace.” – Eph. 1:7

A. Our redemption was necessary

1. Because of our separation from God

“For when we were enemies , we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son….” Romans 5:10a

2. Because of our sin.

“The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.” – Romans 6:23

B. Our redemption was paid

1. It was paid by the blood of Jesus

2. It was paid in full

II. Being Born Again Means You Are Received

“The spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.” – Romans 8:16

A. Received into God’s family by grace through faith – Eph. 2:8-9

B. Received into God’s family by adoption

“..having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of His will.” – Eph. 1:5

C. Received into God’s family forever

“…you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise…” Eph. 1:13

III. Being Born Again Means You Are Reformed

“…old things are passed away; behold all things have become new..” – II Cor. 5:17

A. Reformed in your view of sin

“…how shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?” – Romans 6:2

B. Reformed in your priorities

“Now all things are of God…” – II Cor. 5:17

C. Reformed in your relationships to others

“…and has given us the ministry of reconciliation.” – II Cor. 5:18b

IV. Being Born Again Means You Will be Rewarded

A. Rewarded with abundant life here

“I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” – John 10:10b

B. Rewarded with security about the future

“I give them eternal life and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand” – John 10:28

C. Rewarded with eternal life with Christ

“For our Citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly await for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ” – Phil 3:20
