Summary: A divided nation cannot stand. That's not my words, but the words of Jesus. Over the past few years, America has become more and more divided. How long can we stand?

Scripture Reference: Jeremiah 5:1-9

Preached at Mount Zion Baptist Church on October 21, 2018

Delivered by Rev. John Daniel Johnson

Truth: From the beginning of America’s foundation, we were founded on biblical principles. We left Europe with the hope of being free to worship God. Our nation continued to rise in power: economically, politically, and militarily. By the end of WWII, America was unquestionably the leader of the free world. That was one of our main thoughts in last weeks’ message.

America is the only nation that polices the world through 5 military branches. We have military bases all over the world and on four different continents. We have a million-man Army that is ready to be deployed at a moment’s notice. Our Navy has battleships in every ocean in the world, ready to defend the freedoms in which we stand. We have a strong military, highly-trained police force, and a group of true Americans that truly believes in the 2nd Amendment and will take up arms to protect our Nation.

Many countries envy our Nation. Islamist’s hate us and calls us the “White Devil,” but refugees and illegal immigrants daily climb over, tunnel under, and float through our borders for a piece of the American dream.

But, here’s the question, how can we as one of the most powerful nations in the world be completely absent from the Written Word of God?

1. The United States does not play an important role in the end times. Maybe our Country just will remain silent. However, a casual reading of the Book of Revelation states that this cannot happen.

2. The United States will not exist anymore once the end times begin. Some believe that our Nation will be completely annihilated or taken over by another country.

3. The United States is included with all the other nations that reject God in the end. We’ll lose our influence, and cease to be a super power in the world. (Revelation 10:11; 11:18; 12:5; 14:8; 15:4; 16:19; 17:15; 18:3,23; 19:15)

A study of history shows that many world powers were defeated by another countries’ military might. They were ultimately attacked and destroyed. However, many lost power because of the internal powers. They ultimately destroyed themselves.

So, how will we destroy ourselves? Like our sermon title says, “Divided We Fall.” We are going to glance at the Book of Jeremiah to see what how a Nation turned away from God and the results of turning from Him.

The Book of Jeremiah records the final prophecies to Judah, warning of oncoming destruction if the nation did not repent. Jeremiah pleads for the nation to turn back to God, and turn away from idolatry, wickedness, and immorality. Sadly, this nation refused and was invaded by Babylon. For 70 years, the nation was held in captivity. The economy collapsed, the cities were burnt, and the Temple was destroyed, all because the people refused to turn back to God. Let’s read one of Jeremiah’s messages to this nation.

A few years back, Billy Graham was writing a book. He asked his wife, Ruth, to read a draft of the book. While reading one of the sections about the downward spiral of America, she stated to Billy Graham, “If God doesn’t punish America, He’ll have to apologize to Sodom and Gomorrah.”

From the beginning of the Bible to the end, God warns that any nation that departs from Him is going to suffer judgment. America has been given more spiritual and moral light than any nation in the history of the world. We have millions of Bibles at our disposal; there are hundreds of thousands of churches. Yet in spite of all this, we continue to be the most crime-ridden, the most divorce-prone, and the most immoral nation on earth. Pornography fills our newsstands, and we spew this filth all over the world.

How long will God withhold His hand of judgment? I tell you it will not be long. Unless we as a nation repent and turn to God, we are going to suffer a judgment such as no nation has ever endured.

Ways we are destroying ourselves.

1. The Steady Success of the Anti-American Agenda.

2. The Fast Departure of Manufacturing and Production Jobs. (Lost our Identity)

3. The Destruction of America’s Families

a. Satan aims in general to destroy what God has created.

b. The enemy wants to take out the primary place of disciplemaking.

c. The enemy wounds entire church families when a home falls apart.

4. The Breakdown of What Caused us to Breakthrough

a. The removal of Prayer and God from education.

b. The replacement to the technological age.

1) The younger generation are spiritually dumb, physically numb, and emotionally a bum.
