Summary: This sermon is about the door of evangelism that exists for those who will open it.
"THE DOOR’S OPEN!"
For a great door and effectual is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries.
Now if Timotheus come, see that he may be with you without fear: for he worketh the work of the Lord, as I also do.
Let no man therefore despise him: but conduct him forth in peace, that he may come unto me: for I look for him with the brethren.
As touching our brother Apollos, I greatly desired him to come unto you with the brethren: but his will was not at all to come at this time; but he will come when he shall have convenient time.
Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong.
Let all your things be done with charity.
I beseech you, brethren, (ye know the house of Stephanas, that it is the firstfruits of Achaia, and that they have addicted themselves to the ministry of the saints,)
That ye submit yourselves unto such, and to every one that helpeth with us, and laboureth.
I am glad of the coming of Stephanas and Fortunatus and Achaicus: for that which was lacking on your part they have supplied.
For they have refreshed my spirit and yours: therefore acknowledge ye them that are such.
The churches of Asia salute you. Aquila and Priscilla salute you much in the Lord, with the church that is in their house.
All the brethren greet you. Greet ye one another with an holy kiss.
The salutation of me Paul with mine own hand.
If any man love not the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be Anathema Maranatha.
Have you ever had a door slammed in your face?
Have you ever gone to see someone who didn’t want to see you?
Most of us have had that experience.
We have all had doors opened to us, too.
Those are the doors we enjoy going through.
Paul spoke of an open door in our text today.
He was speaking of the door of opportunity;
the door of evangelism.
And Paul knew that the door was open
no matter who opposed Him!
So today God has given His church an open door!
Doors are open here in southeastern Illinois!
Doors of opportunity!
Doors of service!
Doors of responsibility!
Let me tell you the story of 2 young men
which illustrates what we ought to do with open doors.
John Brooks was an elderly man
who operated a successful hardware store ...
back in the early 1950s.
One day, Mr. Brooks hung a sign in the front window.
The sign in the window read: "BOY WANTED."
That very morning...Johnny Simmons applied for the job.
Now...Johnny was a lazy boy...but he needed some money.
Well, Mr. Brooks hired Johnny.
Even though Johnny was a lazy person...
the work wasn’t very hard to do...
so he enjoyed the job.
A door of opportunity had been opened for Johnny.
What would he do with it?
NOW...I believe that there are Open Doors for us...right now!
What will we do with those doors opening for us?
And we must face that issue because:
GOD PROVIDES OPEN DOORS:
For a great door and effectual is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries.
· Paul didn’t beat the door down, it was opened to him!
· God does the opening!
· When Paul and Barnabas arrived in Antioch
they gathered the church together
and began to report all things that God had done with them.
Listen to this from Acts 14:27.
And when they were come, and had gathered the church together, they rehearsed all that God had done with them, and how he had opened the door of faith unto the Gentiles.
· NOW...who opened the door of faith?
· Was it Paul?
· Was it Barnabus?
· NO! It was the Lord!
· Jesus says in Revelation 3:8
"I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name."
· Listen to me Brick Church people!
· All around us are doors that Jesus is ready to open.
· But we must be ready to walk through those doors.
