The Eyes of Yahweh Are Upon You
Key Verse
“The eyes of the Lord thy God are always upon it, from the beginning of the year unto the end of the year.” Verse 12
This verse is referring to Canaan... the promised land... “ a land that God careth for.”
For us, Canaan, the “promised land” is the Christian life... the life of obedience.
It is the place to which God is leading us and where he promises to bless us.
We were wandering in the wilderness of sin, but God led us into the promised land of salvation.
There is an enemy to drive out before we can take possession
The enemy is indwelling sin or the old nature
We have a leader... Joshua... Jesus.
To those that dwell in the land... God makes promises of protection and blessings.
DO YOU LIVE IN THE PROMISED LAND OR IN THE DESERT?
Some are like the tribe of Reubenites, Gadites and the half tribe of Manassah—
They want the blessings of God on their life while living in the desert of sin.
Are you one of those???
Let’s look at the text...
as it is
blot it out
learn from it
1. AS IT IS... to it’s original audience.
INTENSE AFFECTION
God’s eyes does not just refer to His Omniscience
He does see all...
But the reference here, to God’s eyes includes LOVE
God does not merely observe
He observes IN LOVE.... with great interest in the welfare of his people who live in the land
It is a reference to protection and care
God never looks at us without love
God never thinks about us without love
God never touches us without love
PERSONAL TOUCH
Isn’t it great that God HIMSELF takes a personal interest in His people.
It does not say that God is busy so He sends a guardian angel to watch over us.... HE DOES IT PERSONALLY.
13And it shall come to pass, if ye shall hearken diligently unto my commandments which I command you this day, to love the LORD your God, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul, 14That I will give you the rain of your land in his due season, the first rain and the latter rain, that thou mayest gather in thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil. 15And I will send grass in thy fields for thy cattle, that thou mayest eat and be full.
Notice God speaking in the first person... He personally watches over us, he personally delivers his blessings.
Mothers may have babysitters
Pilots may have co-pilots
BUT GOD DOES NOT NEED BABYSITTERS OR CO-PILOTS.
This is the blessing of personal attention.
You know the disappointment of going to see the Doctor and having to settle for the nurse or the resident.
Imagine going to see your favorite band in concert and getting a replacement band
With God there is never a need for a substitute or assistant... God personally watches over and cares for His people.
CONSTANT UNWEARIED POWER OF GOD
The verse promises that His eyes are ALWAYS< CONSTANTLY on us.
It is impossible for anything to happen to us or for us to go through anything that God does not know about.
Have you ever seen a mother with a small child in the mall/ Her eyes never leave the child. He does not have to worry about getting lost, her eye is glued o him.
That is how it is with God.... with one exception...
Even the best mother can not ALWAYS keep her eye on her child.
She has other children, she has things to do, she can not be in all places, she has to sleep
But God ALWAYS- ALWAYS has his eyes on his child.
Surely If we can put these together... intense affection, personal interest and unwearied power... it will cause us to lose ourselves in wander, in love and in praise.
PROMISE: HIS EYES ARE ON YOU!!!
Don’t worry if you can not see him...
Little boy came into a dark room where his father was. His eyes had not adjusted to the dark but his father’s had. He called to his father and he replied, “I’m right here son.” The boy could not see him and said, “But, I can’t see you Daddy.” To which his father said, “Don’t worry, I can see you.”
He can see you... And that is better.
2. Blot it out... do away with it.
Imagine that there was not promise of God’s eyes on us
No promise to know our needs
No promise to protect
No promise to bless
Imagine we did not have God’s promise to help us in the time of need
Imagine we were left to rely on our fellow creatures to get through
