Summary: THE GOD WHO SEES

Gen. 16:1-16 THE GOD WHO SEES

Hagar was so amazed that God cared she called His name “El-Ro - i” “Thou God Seest Me!” She named the well “Beerlahairoi” –

“The well of the Living One that seest me.”

I. THE CERTAINTY OF HIS OMNISCIENCE

“Omniscience” = “Possessing total knowledge; knowing everything.”

(a) In His Person – because of Who He is

The Greeks called God “Theos" - The One Who Sees

(b) In His Presence – because of Where He is.

Psa. 139:7 Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? 8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. 9 If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; 10 Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.

Prov 15:3 The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.

(c) In His Power – because of What He does.

God is not disconnected from His creation.

Matt. 10:29 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. 30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

(d) In His Purposes – Because He knows the future

Isa. 46:10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:

A God Who plans all things is surely able to know all things!

II. THE CONSEQUENCE OF HIS OMNISCIENCE

1. His knowledge is Personal - “Seest Me” as if there were no other

2. Perfect - “SEEST me”

He sees you entirely, completely, without & within at the same time.

3. Persistent - “Seest” present tense verb. God sees and always sees.

Isa. 29:15 Woe unto them that seek deep to hide their counsel from the LORD, and their works are in the dark, and they say, Who seeth us? and who knoweth us?

Jer. 23:24 Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the LORD. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the LORD.

4. Precise - “SEEST me” - The word implies absolute sight.

Psa. 139:1 O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known me. 2 Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. 3 Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.

III. THE COMFORT OF HIS OMNISCIENCE

(a) He Sees The Supplicant – we see Hagar on the run.

Isa. 65:24 And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.

Jer. 33:3 Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.

Rom. 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

(b) He Sees The Sufferer – Hagar is suffering.

She has been despised, rejected, abused and abandoned.

Job 23:10 But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.

(c) He Sees The Slandered – Hagar has also been slandered.

(d) He Sees The Sinner – By birth, Hagar was an Egyptian, a heathen, a pagan, a sinner. Yet, the eye of God was upon her.

Luke 15:20 But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him.
