The King’s Face

Message Point: While we have been reconciled to God through Jesus, we still long to see the face of our King!

Focus Passage: 2 Samuel 14:21-33

Supplemental Passage: Then Moses said, "I pray You, show me Your glory!" And He said, "I Myself will make all My goodness pass before you, and will proclaim the name of the LORD before you; and I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show compassion on whom I will show compassion." But He said, "You cannot see My face, for no man can see Me and live!" Then the LORD said, "Behold, there is a place by Me, and you shall stand there on the rock; and it will come about, while My glory is passing by, that I will put you in the cleft of the rock and cover you with My hand until I have passed by. "Then I will take My hand away and you shall see My back, but My face shall not be seen." (Exodus 33:18-23 NASB)

Introduction: Relate personal experiences by which letters, email, telephone, Skype, or personal visits encouraged you when you were overseas.

I. Partial Reconciliation

a. Absalom was recalled to Jerusalem

i. he enjoyed the privileges of being the King’s son

b. We have been saved

i. We are enjoying the privileges of being a Christian, eg, Holy Spirit, peace, forgiveness

II. Desire for Full Reconciliation

a. Absalom wanted to meet with his father

i. he became inpatient with only being in the same city; he wanted to be in his presence.

b. We want to see Jesus

i. Even though we are saved, we desire to see Jesus face to face; we long to go home.

III. Complete Reconciliation

a. King David kissed Absalom

i. At that point, Absalom knew that he was completely restored to his father.

b. We will be with Jesus forever

i. "Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before the foundation of the world. (John 17:24 NASB)
