Summary: The healing power in the name of Jesus as was manifeted in the life of the man born lame.

THE HOUR OF MIRACLE

The Leap of Faith

My scriptural text in taking from Acts 3:1-11. Let’s read. In the story we just read there are five things outstanding. They are:

1. The messengers – The apostles Peter and John.

2. The man – A certain lame man.

3. The mess – Lame from his mother’s womb and a beggar.

4. The message – Rise up and walk in Jesus name.

5. The mass – The people amazed and wondered.

We will be looking at these five aspects in this sermon today. Please fasten your seat to ride with me.

1. The Messengers

Peter and John went together into the temple. There was a working together of Peter and John. They were of one accord.

Wherever the early Christians were working together or of one accord miracle occur. The word together or one accord was used 32 times in Acts of the Apostles and in most of these occurrences we see that there was always a release of power and miracles.

In Acts 2:1-4 they were together and of one accord and the Holy Spirit fell on them.

In Acts 4:32-33 they were of one accord and had all things in common. With great power they gave witness of the resurrection. Sign and wonders occurred in their ministry.

Acts 5:12 - And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon’s porch.

According to Roman calendar and timing, the DAY in the New Testament is divided into four main segments.

Third hour, 6 to 9 a.m. Sixth hour, 9 to 12 midday.

Ninth hour, 12 to 3 p.m. Twelfth hour, 3 to 6 p.m.

The messengers were going to the temple at the hour of prayer to draw spiritual strength for the spiritual assignment committed into their hands. They gave themselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word (Acts 6:4). The messenger must receive the message from the master. In order to receive the message he must constantly be in touch with the master, the giver of the message.

2. The man

Acts 3:2 - And a certain man lame from his mother’s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple;

When the bible uses the word a certain man that means his name was of no significance. He was regarded as nobody. He was someone of no reputation. There was not much happening in his life that was worthy of note. Nobody could reckon with him. Every body that saw him passes him by.

3. The Mess

“lame from his mother’s womb was carried”

I want you to pay close attention to the phrases used in the bible. The bible said he was a certain main, lame from his mother’s womb and was carried. You can see why he is regarded as a certain man. He was lame from birth. He had never walked in his life before his encounter with the Lord. There was nothing much happening in his life.

What is that lameness in your life? What ever difficulties you face in life the Lord will help you to overcome them.

The bible went further to say that he was carried. He was at the mercy of others. When ever he wanted to move he had to depend on people to move him. He only moves when people are available to carry him. If for any reason there was no body available or willing to carry him, he will be stranded. He will be at a spot.

Do you know that many people are like that today? They live a stranded life. They live at the mercy of other people.

“whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful”

The man was carried and laid at the temple gate. Can you imagine that? He was close to the glory of God but he never experienced it. He was left at the gate. He did not have the privilege to enter into the temple. Many people come to the church but they are never in the church. The man did not know what was going on in the temple but he was close to the temple. Do you know that some people can be called “Mr. almost made it”? Beloved it is said that nearly cannot kill a bird. The lame man could tell you all the people that passed him by into the temple to pray and worship God. He could hear the praises in the temple but he was not a part of it. Have you been to a football match but you could not get in to watch it. You can hear the shout but you are not a part of it. You can hear the scream but you are not a part of it. When people laugh you laugh without knowing why they are laughing. When they shout you shout without knowing why they are shouting. The people that helped The worst thing that can happen to you is to be so close to making it but never made it, so close to getting a job but did not get it. You can be going to church without going to Jesus. You can be close to the Pastor without being close to God.
