Summary: "Liberty" is one of the dearest words in any language no matter how it may be pronounced. It means: "the quality or state of being free." Spirtual liberty comes only through a right relation with the Lord Jesus Christ.

THE LIBERTY THAT COMES FROM A KNOWLEDGE

OF THE TRUTH

"Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage." Galatians 5:1

"Liberty" is one of the dearest words in any language no matter how it may be pronounced. It means: "the quality or state of being free."

I. TRUTH THAT COMES FROM CHRIST GIVES FREEDOM.

"And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free….Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed." John 8:32, 36.

II. TRUTH IS IN THE PERSON OF JESUS CHRIST.

"And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth." John 1:14.

III. TRUTH FREES US FROM THE BONDAGE OF ERROR.

We need to know the truth about man. Man is a sinner by nature and by choice. Consider:

"For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23.

"As it is written: ’There is none righteous, no, not one; there is none who understands; there is none who seeks after God. They have all turned aside; they have altogether become unprofitable; there is none who does good, no, not one." Romans 3:10-12.

We need to know the truth about sin. Sin brings tragic consequences to the sinner and soul-misery to the Christian. Consider:

"The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 6:23.

"But your iniquities have separated you from your God; and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear." Isaiah 59: 2.

We need to know the truth about God. God’s love extends to the sinner as well as the redeemed.

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life" John 3:16.

"To know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God." Ephesians 3:19.

IV. HOW WE ARE TO USE THIS FREEDOM.

“For such is the will of God that by doing right you may silence the ignorance of foolish men. Act as free men, and do not use your freedom as a covering for evil, but use it as the servants of God.” I Peter 2:15-16.
