The Lost Son

Summary: No matter what you’ve done, The Father is waiting to love you.
INTRO NEW COVENANT
Lets talk about the second son for a minute
Jesus is talking to the Pharisees
He’s saying my children will be like the lost one- Y’all will stay home and sulk
This boy says---I’ve been here- obeyed every commandment
THAT’S A LIE- NO BOY EVER OBEYED ALL PARENTS COMM.
He sure thought he had- SO DID THE PHARISEES-
You can know when someone’s RELIGIOUS-
They’re Mad when Good stuff happens
Someone get blessed- THEY”RE GRIPING AND COMPLAINING
This boys brother had just come home---and was alive and healthy-
He didn’t care- He already got what was coming to HIM
WHAT ABOUT ME----WHAT ABOUT ME
The Father said, “You’re always with me---what I have is yours
That wasn’t enough- He didn’t want what the FATHER HAD
He didn’t want the brother to GET WHAT THE FATHER HAD
Never think you’re better/ worse
But I know Many of us have been the Lost brother----
Made a mess of things- Made mistakes- Goofed up
Not all but some of Us have -----RIGHT
You feel bad---cant get over it
Satan will come and wear you out----
God wanted you to be a preacher---NO DEGREE
God wanted you to be a DEACON---Been divorced
We see forgiveness of God in the DAD for the DUMB KID-
This boy Goes to His father- I need my inheritance—needed slapped
Goes off and blows it all- comes to the end of HIMSELF
Sin will bring you to the end of YOURSELF
He says My DADS PIGS EAT BETTER THAN THIS----
LOOK AT VS 20—
In this one verse---
5 Things you can count on your father doing—when you’ve goofed up
1. He saw him a great way off---GOD IS LOOKING FOR YOU
When you goof up---God’s not disgusted with you
Can’t look at you anymore---He’s looking for you and will see you a great way off
“When I get my life right I”LL go to church”—
People are afraid to walk in the door---knowing who they are and what they’ve done
They wont run to God---They run from God
GOD”S LOOKING FOR YOU- Take one baby step- he’ll see you afar
2. Had Compassion- God’s not going to beat you up for goofing up
He’ll discipline you- correct you---LIKE A GOOD FATHER
When you’ve messed up---He’ll have compassion
He’ll say---O MY SON HAS LOST EVERYTHING
Not---“don’t come here---I’ve given you enough”
3. Ran to Him—God’s waiting for you to come to your senses
James 4:8----Draw near to God He’ll draw near to you
Take one step and HE’LL COME THE REST OF THE WAY
4. Falls on His Neck---This is a sign of Sheer relief-
This father fell on his son He so glad to see him
5. And he kisses Him—The ultimate sing of affection
God’s want you to lavish your love on HIM
BUT HE WANTS TO LAVISH HIS LOVE ON YOU
God will not treat you like and UPSET WIFE
Give you the COLD SHOULDER
In closing---VS 21
He rehearsed—sinned—not worthy to be called son—hired servant
He’s half way through it—takin a breath---
DAD INTERRUPTS
We’ll have none of that servant nonsense here boy
You’re my son, you always will be
VS 22
