Summary: Grace does not add up. It does not make mathematical sense. Maybe that’s why its grace.

God’s sense of mathematics does not make sense:

God leaves the 99 to find the 1.

Luke 15

God counts a penny as much as millions.

Mark 12

God doesn’t pay by the hour.

Matthew 20

----1) God’s grace is to be received

not deserved.(Mt. 20:10)

----2) God’s grace is about mercy

not about fairness. (Mt. 20:12)

----3) God’s grace is for the last

as well as the first.(Mt. 20:6,7,16)

This is a simple message about grace that makes the point that grace doesn’t add up. It’s not supposed to. That’s why its grace. God does not view things like we do. If we look at grace from a human standpoint--it does not add up. God’s mathematics are different than ours.

Much credit to this sermon must go to a chapter in Philip Yancey’s book, "What’s So Amazing about Grace."
