Summary: God not only deserves to be praised but justice, righteousness, and Holiness demand it.

Luke 19:29-40

Introduction: Video “That’s My King”

I. Scripture demands it.

A. (Heb 13:15 By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.)

B. Because of Christ (by Him..)

C. Continually

D. Sacrificially

E. To the name of Christ

II. God accommodates it (vs.39-40)

A. There is always, it seems, someone who wants to stifle the praise of God. (v.39)

B. Because this is the greatest thing to happen in all of creation (v.40)

C. Justice demands that it be done

D. Failure to do it would leave an empty hole to be filled

III. The Prophets foretold it

A. Shout Aloud!

B. (Zec 9:9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey,.)

IV. God’s people owe it

1. (Psa_107:2 Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy;)

2. “If the Lord has redeemed you, if the Lord has saved you, the least you can do is say so!” ~ Dr. S.M. Lockridge

3. “Our sophistication is zapping the life out of our religion!”

4. (1Co_6:20 for you were bought with a price. So glorify God….)

Conclusion:

“Why was it?” asked Mrs. Smith of her own heart as she was walking homewards from the communion-table. “Why was it?” she almost unconsciously exclaimed aloud. “Oh, I wish somebody could tell me!” “Could tell you what?” said a pleasant voice behind her, and looking around, she saw her pastor and his wife approaching. “Could you tell me,” said she, “why the Saviour died for us? I have never heard it answered to my satisfaction. You will say it was because He loved us; but why was that love? He certainly did not need us, and in our sinful state there was nothing in us to attract His love.” “I may suppose, Mrs. Smith,” said her pastor, “that it would be no loss for you to lose your deformed little babe. You have a large circle of friends, you have other children, and a kind husband. You do not need the deformed child; and what use is it?” “Oh, sir,” said Mrs. N—, “I could not part with my poor child. I do need him. I need his love. I would rather die than fail of receiving it.” “Well,” said her pastor, “does God love His children less than earthly, sinful parents do?” “I never looked upon it in that way before,” said Mrs. Smith.
