THE PARABLE OF THE TEN VIRGINS

Matthew 25:1-13

1. The parables are beginning to shift in meaning.

A. Who are the characters?

1. The bridegroom is Christ. (Matthew 25:5 and 24:44)

2. The virgins are the church. (Matthew 25:2-4 and 24:42)

B. What are we talking about?

1. The return of Christ for His church.

2. The readiness of the church for His return.

C. When will it happen?

1. Matthew 24:36-39

2. I Thessalonians 5:16-18

2. What does this parable say to the church?

A. The church is in the waiting mode for the return of Christ. (Revelation 22:12-14)

B. Some came to meet the bridegroom, and they were prepared to wait.

C. Some will go away to “buy supplies” and miss the bridegroom.

3. What does this parable say about the bridegroom?

A. He will come at an unknown time.

B. He will welcome those who are ready to meet Him. (Matthew 25:10)

C. He will reject those who are not ready to meet Him. (Matthew 25:12)

4. What should we do with this parable?

A. We have a special place in God’s plans for the future.

B. We do not know the day or the hour of His return.

D. We may be excluded from the banquet if we are not ready.
