Summary: Moses, a Pastor of the same congregation for his entire ministry. A Pastor who often dealt with much of the problems the Pastor of today faces. Such as: commitment, conflict, confusion, and compromise.

Every church needs and deserves a Pastor who loves God and loves his people. God has given him to Pastor.

I. He Listens to God with the Ear of a Servant

1. A servant recognizes his master’s voice. John 10:27

a. Moses became remarkably familiar with the voice of God.

1) Mt. Horeb

2) Midian

3) Red Sea

4) Mt. Nebo

b. The servant disciplines himself to be tenderhearted, sensitive to the slightest “whisper” of God.

c. 2 Timothy 4:1-4

2. A servant responds to his master’s call.

a. Moses’ response was immediate. Exodus 3:11-4:12

b. Except when he considered his human weakness.

1) Feeling of inferiority, who am I?

2) Ignorance, what shall I say?

3) Intimidation, what if they want…?

4) Inadequacy, I have never been?

c. Many times, the message was not clear, but Moses’ courage was always there.

d. Moses brought God’s will and God’s plans first in his life.

e. The truth is, a Pastor must feel deeply convicted about his commission from God. Spend time in communion with God, then he will have no problems communicating for God.

3. A servant relinquishes personal convenience for his master’s pleasure. Hebrews 11:24-26

a. Moses became a strong steady leader only after he had given up the treasures of Egypt.

b. The true spiritual Pastor will be more concerned with the service he can render God and his people more than the benefits and pleasures of this world. Philippians 4:11-12

II. He Learns from God with the Mind of a Student

1. Numbers 12:3

2. The student submits to the teacher’s knowledge.

3. Paul learned; I must learn. Matthew 11:29.

4. Hebrews 5:8; the yoke, by choice, limited him to the will of the Father, the words of the Father, and the works of the Father. John 8:29

a. I as the Pastor, must take some yoke.

b. Philippians 3:7-8

5. The student studies what the teacher has taught. 2 Timothy 2:15

a. Moses; Deuteronomy 6:6-9

b. Psalm 103:7; only the sensitive spiritual eye can see the ways of God.

c. John 14:21

6. The student shares in the teacher’s vision or goal.

a. God seeks for us to be holy, and He is holy.

b. Psalm 93:5

III. He Leads Others Toward God with the Heart of a Shepherd

1. Deuteronomy 18:18

2. The shepherd feeds with the word of God.

3. The most important task Moses had was getting his people to obey God’s word.

4. Moses did not seek to please the people nor to compromise the message.

5. More than anything else he wanted his people to love God and obey God. Jeremiah 3:15

6. The number one goal of the Pastor is to feed his people. He desires to give them truth and protect them from lies. 2 Timothy 4:1-5

7. The message will be two-fold:

a. #1 warn about disobedience of the truth preached.

b. #2 tell of the rewards for obedience.

8. 2 Chronicles 20:20; Hebrews 13:7

9. God advised Moses to share the ministry he had given him. Numbers 11:17; Exodus 18:13-26

10. The good Pastor will”

a. #1, be a Pastor of prayer.

b. #2, preach the word.

c. #3, surround himself with Godly men.

d. 2 Timothy 2:2

11. Like Moses, a Pastor needs to admit our failures, benefit from our mistakes, and commit ourselves to new beginnings.
