Summary: This is a short devotion on the power of God to forgive ALL our sin.

“But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from ALL sin.” I JOHN 1:7 NKJV (emphasis mine)

Is there a particular sin in your past that haunts you more than the others? Is there something that just keeps coming up even though you have confessed it to God over and over and asked for forgiveness? It is something that you have wished a thousand times that you had never did, however, you cannot push back the clock and relive that decision, it is done, the bad decision was made, and it is forever etched in your mind.

Let me ask you something this morning. Is that the only sin you ever committed? I think the answer to that question is universal, of course it is not. It would be great if it was but the truth of the matter, it is not. It is only a list of many. Romans 3:23, “For ALL have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

Let me ask yet another question this morning, “Why would God forgive you of all your other sins and leave that one?” Well, fact of the matter is, He didn’t leave that one, John said, “But if we walk in the light as HE is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from ALL sin.” I realize this morning that some sins carry a heavier load of consequences than other sins, sometimes people make decisions that have consequences they will carry with them until they die. The bad decision forever changed their life. However, in God’s eyes sin is sin, and the same blood that has taken care of all your other sins is sufficient enough to take care of that one sin the Devil keeps using on you.

Let me leave you with some more promises from God’s Word concerning the power of God’s forgiveness.

I John 1:9- “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from ALL unrighteousness.”

Psalms 103:12- “As for as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us.” I don’t see a limitation nor an exception listed in this verse, He has removed our transgressions.

Micah 7:18-19- Who is a God like You, pardoning iniquity And passing over the transgression of the remnant of His heritage? He does not retain His anger forever, Because He delights in mercy. He will again have compassion on us, And will subdue (bring into control) our iniquities. You will cast ALL our sins into the depths of the sea.” I want to warn you “Don’t go on a fishing trip with the Devil.” He will invite you to come along with him, but stay out of the boat of the past.

In closing, the next time the Devil rings the doorbell of your past, let Jesus answer the door.
