Introduction: When you don’t know or don’t understand your purpose in life, all kinds of things can substitute for it.

I. Come to God and Be Saved

a. "Ho! Every one who thirsts, come to the waters; And you who have no money come, buy and eat. Come, buy wine and milk Without money and without cost. (Isaiah 55:1 NASB)

i. Everyone

ii. Water – water of life = Jesus

iii. No money – those who couldn’t purchase salvation even if it were to be bought

iv. Buy = break (breakfast) to procure

v. Wine = celebration

vi. Milk = truth, doctrine, nourishment

b. This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. (1 Timothy 2:3-4 NASB)

II. Go Out and Bring Others to Him

a. So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it. (Isaiah 55:11 NASB)

b. And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." (Matthew 28:18-20 NASB)

III. Glorify God

a. "My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be My disciples. (John 15:8)

b. Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. (1 Corinthians 10:31)

Application/Invitation: So, basically, the purpose of life is: “To know God, and to make Him known.”
