THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST

1.SURPRISE

The resurrection of Jesus christ was a surprise to the disciples.Although the Lord had foretold his resurrection the disciples did not beleive it. They had

lost all hope for their lives when Jesus died. They were in deep sorrow , fear and discouragement. The resurrection of Jesus was a big pleasant surprise for

them and turned their sorrow into joy.Even in our lives we sometimes get discouraged and lose all hope inspite of knowing all the promises of God. The

resurrection gives us the hope that a big surprise is waiting for us.

John 20;20

After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord.

Psalm 126;1-6

When the LORD restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dreamed.

Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, “The LORD has done great things for them.”

The LORD has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.

Restore our fortunes,LORD, like streams in the Negev.

Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy.

Those who go out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with them.

2.SUPREMACY

The resurrection of Jesus Christ established the triumph of good over evil , of truth over falsehood, of the power of God over the power of Satan. The

enemies of Christ may have felt that they had succeeded in their efforts to destroy Christ. Satan may have thought that he had won a great victory by the

death of Christ on the cross. People may have felt that evil has triumphed in the crucifixion of Christ. But the resurrection of Christ established beyond

doubt the supremacy of truth and righteousness. Even in our lives sometimes it may appear as though evil and falsehood are prevailing. but the resurrection

of Jesus gives us the assurance that ultimately truth and good prevails. God is still on the throne.

Matthew 28;2-6

There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it.

His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow.

The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.

The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.

He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.

I Corinthians 15;54-55

When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been

swallowed up in victory.”

“Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?”

Matthew 27;62-64

The next day, the one after Preparation Day, the chief priests and the Pharisees went to Pilate.

“Sir,” they said, “we remember that while he was still alive that deceiver said, ‘After three days I will rise again.’

So give the order for the tomb to be made secure until the third day. Otherwise, his disciples may come and steal the body and tell the people that he has

been raised from the dead. This last deception will be worse than the first.”

3.SOARING

The resurrection of Jesus Christ caused a soaring elevation in His life. He was lifted above all earthly limitations. Even closed doors could not stop him.No

evil forces could affect him anymore. His enemies could not touch him after his resurrection. He was lifted high above everything else.In the life of Joseph

after a period of suffering and humiliation God lifted him up.He was put in charge of the whole land of Egypt. Now none of his former persecutors could harm

him anymore. He was soaring far above them.Moses told the people of Israel as they were about to cross the Red sea ’the Egyptians you see today you will see

no more’.God promises that that those who wait on Him will rise like eagles with new strength.
