Job 19:1-29

PROPOSITION: Since Christ was victorious in His suffering, you can be victorious in your suffering and find comfort in Him.

I. Look to the finished work of Christ on the cross for comfort. v. 1-22

A. Job is ridiculed by his friends (1-5).

1. They torment him with their counsel (1)

2. They cast unwarranted reproach upon him (2-3).

3. They are pointing at his condition as proof of his sin (4-5).

B. Job is speaking out against God (6-19).

1. God has not responded to his cry for help (6-7).

2. God has become his antagonist (8-13).

3. God has brought him great humiliation (13-19).

C. Job is suffering alone (20-22).

1. He is suffering great emaciation (20).

2. He is being judged by his friends (21-22).

II. Look to the second coming of Christ for comfort! v. 23-29

A. Job’s highest expression of faith in his lowest point of despair (23-27a).

1. Faith in the Kinsman-Redeemer (25a).

2. Faith in the Kinsman-Redeemer’s ultimate earthly reign (25b).

3. Faith in the physical bodily resurrection (26-27a).

B. Job’s expression of warning regarding coming judgment (27b-29).

1. Beware of judging and persecuting me.

2. Be concerned about your own judgment.
