We have been looking at starting here of the period of time we might refer to as eternity future. It is a time in which God will make all things new.
Rev 22:1-2 (NASB) “Then he showed me a river of the water of life, clear as crystal, coming from the throne of God and of the Lamb, in the middle of its street. On either side of the river was the tree of life, bearing twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit every month; and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.”
1. The Angel shows John v. 1-2
A. Water-of-Life River
(1) crystal bright
(2) flowing from the Throne of God
(3) flowing from the Throne of the Lamb
(4) running right down the middle of the street – v. 2
B. The Tree of Life – Gen 2:9 – Eze. 47:12
(1) was planted on each side of the river
(2) producing twelve kinds of fruit
a. a ripe fruit each month
(3) leaves are used for the healing of the nations
First we see the RIVER of the water of life proceeding out of the throne of God. The river is of clear crystal water. Second we see the TREE OF LIFE. Notice that this tree is singular tree not group of trees. It is a singular tree standing in the midst of the street. It bears twelve kinds of fruit – a different fruit will ripen every month. It’s leaves are for the healing of the nations.
The first time we saw the tree of life it was in the Garden of Eden – now it shows up again. But because of the fall of man – there has been no access to the Tree of Life until now.
Rev 22:3-4 (NASB) “There will no longer be any curse; and the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and His bond-servants will serve Him; they will see His face, and His name will be on their foreheads.”
*Never again will anything be cursed – v. 3
C. The Throne
(1) of God
(2) of the Lamb
a. is at the center
D. His servants
(1) will offer God
(2) will look on his face – v. 4
(3) their foreheads mirroring God
The curse started when man sinned in the garden. After he sinned God sent him from the garden and barred him from eating of the tree of life. Here we see the curse is gone and now we live in another Eden – a new heaven and a new earth – paradise. God’s presence will be there – God and the Lamb. His bond-servants will serve Him. And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.
Rev 22:5 (NASB) “And there will no longer be any night; and they will not have need of the light of a lamp nor the light of the sun, because the Lord God will illumine them; and they will reign forever and ever.”
*Never again will there be any night. – v. 5
-they will need
No light from the sun
Because the Lord God will illumine them
They will reign forever and ever
Because God and the Lamb is there – there will not be any need for the sun – or lamps – because God will light things up.
Rev 22:6-7 (NASB) “And he said to me, "These words are faithful and true"; and the Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, sent His angel to show to His bond-servants the things which must soon take place. "And behold, I am coming quickly. Blessed is he who heeds the words of the prophecy of this book."
