“The Second Coming of Jesus” Rev 19:11-21
REVIEW
We have come to the heart of the battle between God and Satan. The OK corral of biblical history. We will explore the subject of the 2nd coming in more detail next week. Today I want to take just a few moments to compare and contrast the 1st and 2nd Coming. We read passages related to the 1st coming, let’s now read the passage concerning the 2nd.
What a difference between the First and Second Advent! There is however also some striking similarities.
Both were supernaturally predicted before hand down to the minutest detail.
Both were preceded by a special anointed spokesman to prepare the way that was eventually martyred. John the Baptist preceded the 1st and Moses and Elijah will precede the 2nd.
Both were attended and announced by angelic armies giving praise to God.
Both will be accompanied by signs in the stars.
Both will be rejected by religious leaders.
Both unfold according to the plan set before the world came into existence.
Both were deeply anticipated by the faithful.
Both find Israel under foreign rule and bondage.
In the first He came in obscurity and alone.
In the second he will come in power and glory with His bride to worldwide recognition.
In the first he was marked for destruction by an evil king.
In the second, He will hunt down and destroy every evil king.
In the first He came to humble circumstances (a barn in a tiny town).
In the second He will come in great glory to Jerusalem.
In the first He came as a dependent helpless baby.
In the second He will come as the all-powerful risen King of kings and Lord of lords.
In the first He came to serve all.
In the second He will come to be served by all.
In the first He was adored by a few foreign kings.
In the second, every king and every creature will bow and confess Him as Lord.
In the first He came to bear the sin of many.
In the second He will complete the salvation of those who embrace Him.
In the first He came to save all men.
In the second He will come to judge all men.
In the first He came to die for all men.
In the second He live to give life to those who embrace Him.
In the first He came to offer righteousness to all men.
In the second He will require righteousness from all men.
In the first He came for a limited time and ministry.
In the second He shall reign forever and ever.
In the first He came subject to the threat and oppression of evil men.
In the second, He will come to destroy all evil men and rule with a rod of iron.
In the first He was limited by a frail physical body.
In the second He will come without any limitations in a resurrected glorified body.
In the first He came only to the lost sheep of Israel.
In the second He will come as the Great Shepherd of all people.
In the first He came to the confession of a few.
In the second He will come to the confession of all creatures.
In the first He came weeping over Jerusalem
In the second He will established the glorious New Jerusalem.
In the first He came suffering as the “Man of Sorrows”.
In the second He will come victorious as the “Joyful King”
In the first His own people refused to embrace Him.
In the second, all Israel will look on Him who they pierced and embrace Him as a nation.
In the first He came riding on a lowly donkey.
In the second He will come riding on a white stallion.
In the first He promised peace.
In the second He will establish peace.
In the first, Satan dogged His every step.
In the second Satan will be trampled under His step.
The first intensified Satan’s plan for world domination.
The second will illuminate Satan’s plan for world domination.
In the first Satan was loose as the prince of the power of the air.
In the second Satan will be bound for 1,000 years just before being thrown in to the lake of fire where he and those who followed him will be tormented day and night forever and ever.
The first offers hope for all who embrace Him as Savior.
The second ends all hope of salvation for those who had refused to receive Him.
The first brought the promise of everlasting life.
The second fulfills the promise of everlasting life on a renewed earth.
In the first He came to limited praise.
In the second a multitude from every tribe and language and people and nation will offer praise to the Lamb that was slain Who is worthy to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength, glory and honor and blessing along with every creature on the earth and under the earth.
