:6—“When the word reached the king of Nineveh, he arose from his throne, laid aside his robe from him, covered himself with sackcloth, & sat on the ashes.

:7—“And he issued a proclamation & it said, “In Nineveh by the decree of the king & his nobles:...”

Rom. 13:1-4—“Let every person be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, & those which exist are established by God. Therefore he who resists authority has opposed the ordinance of God; & they who have opposed will receive condemnation upon themselves. For rulers are not a cause of fear for good behavior, but for evil. Do you want to have no fear of authority? Do what is good, & you will have praise from the same; for it is a minister of God to you for good. But if you do what is evil, be afraid; for it does not bear the sword for nothing; for it is a minister of God, an avenger who brings wrath upon the one who practices evil.”

1Tim. 2:1-4—“First of all, then, I urge that entreaties & prayers, petitions & thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings & all who are in authority, in order that we may lead a tranquil & quiet life in all godliness & dignity. This is good & acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved & to come to the knowledge of the truth.”

:7—“....by the decree of the king & his nobles: Do not let man, beast, herd, or flock taste a thing. Do not let them eat or drink water.

:8—“But both man & beast must be covered with sackcloth; & let men call on God earnestly that each may turn from his wicked way & from the violence which is in his hands.”

Jer. 29:13—“‘And you will seek Me & find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.”

1Chron. 28:9—““As for you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father, & serve Him with a whole heart & a willing mind; for the LORD searches all hearts, & understands every intent of the thoughts. If you seek Him, He will let you find Him; but if you forsake Him, He will reject you forever.”

Joshua 24:14—“Now, therefore, fear the LORD & serve Him in sincerity & truth; & put away the gods which your fathers served beyond the River & in Egypt, & serve the LORD.”

2Cor. 7:9-10—“I now rejoice, not that you were made sorrowful, but that you were made sorrowful to the point of repentance; for you were made sorrowful according to the will of God, in order that you might not suffer loss in anything through us. For the sorrow that is according to the will of God produces a repentance without regret, leading to salvation; but the sorrow of the world produces death.”
