Summary: So what is Anger? More importantly, what isn’t anger?

INTRO: Define anger and its effects

Anger is

1. Proper use of anger.

Illus: My gun has proper use

25Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor, for we are all members of one body. 26"In your anger do not sin"[a]: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, 27and do not give the devil a foothold.

Ephesians 4:25-27

Anger is:

A-activating

It can be what motivates us to see the right thing happen.

Let anger motivate you: If your spouse isn’t a Christian

If your children rebel

If your kids come home with consistently bad grades

If your spouse mistreats you

If your world seems to be going wrong

If people are mistreating you

BUT IN YOUR ANGER DO NOT SIN

N-normal

Everybody gets angry. Anger isn’t the problem in the world. The problem is

uncontrolled anger. Why does pop corn pop? You need to vent and not allow

things to become to built up.

G-gentle

Some think that because they are angry about something they have the right to make the

rest of the world miserable. They act as if their anger certifies them to take it out on

others. Anger is a motivator, not a warrant for stupidity.

E-effect driven

We don’t want to be angry for the point of being angry. We become angry to strive

toward a goal.

R-resolving

Not only should anger motivate you to action it should also motivate you to bring

the situation to a resolution. An end that is at least understood. It may not be your way

but at least something you understand.

Anger is not:

A-arrogant

To often people think that because we get angry we should get our way. I see

kids do that all the time. Unfortunately I see adults do it just as much. This

is probably one of the leading reasons for divorce today.

N-negative

Believe it or not anger is not negative. The goal of anger is to bring about a

positive resolution and as a result anger is to be seen and treated as a positive

thing.

G-glamorous

I see so many act as if it is cool to be mad all the time. Talk about Melissa and

how it affected her marriage with BJ.

E-expected

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE ANGRY. It is not supposed to be part of the daily

routine to get angry. Anger is a special emotion that flares up on occasion. Granted

some times you will be more angry more often than others but we need if we are getting

angry all the time we may need to evaluate our own lives.

R-rude

We are to always be loving. Even in our anger. It is not right to be rude or cruel in your

anger.
