The Truth About Human Life

Introduction:

Abortion has become the second most common surgical procedure after circumcision. Over 99 percent of all U.S. abortions have nothing to do with the life or health of the woman—they are done simply because of her desire for convenience, absence of distress, and her so-called happiness.

In 1995 a study was done and it showed that doctors in the U.S. performed 1.4 million abortions per year. That is one per three live births. Another study done in 1998 showed that doctors in the U.S. performed 1.3 million abortions per year, which is one for every 2.6 live births. 1.4 million abortions in 1995 made a .1% drop in 1998. That means that there have been approximately 37,000,000 abortions since Roe v. Wade back in 1973.

Abortion has become so frequent that population experts say it has become, in effect, a new form of birth control. But abortion should not be confused with birth control, which prevents a new life from beginning—abortion destroys that new life once it has already begun. Of the women having abortions, 82 percent are unmarried, 25 percent are teenagers, and 54 percent are “repeat customers.”

God’s Word tells us something totally different. Life is precious is His site. That is why God wrote for the seventh commandment “Thou shall not kill.” In some ways it is sad that we have to set aside a day to remember the Sanctity of Human Life. Psalms 139:13-16 says, “For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.”

I. God Originated human life and sustains it.

The Truth about Human Life is that God originated and sustains it. God originally began life through the first man and woman that He created, and He superintends every life from its earliest moments in the womb according to Psalms 139:15&16. God so thoroughly sustains every aspect of our life that the Bible says in Job 34:14-15 “If he set his heart upon man, if he gather unto himself his spirit and his breath; All flesh shall perish together, and man shall turn again unto dust.”

II.God has Printed His image upon Human Life.

The Truth about Human Life is that God printed His image upon it. The distinct factor that sets humanity apart from baboons, whales, seagulls and all the other animals is that which forms the most fundamental part of his being. Genesis 1:27 says, “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.”

The image that is printed in mankind is so precious that it needs to be protected very closely. Anyone who tries to attack men and women created in God’s image blatantly attacking god Himself. God makes a very clear command in Genesis 9:6 "Whoso sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.”

III.God has a Plan for Human Life.

The Truth about Human Life is that God has a plan for it. The plan was to save human life from death and destruction. Second Corinthians 5:15 says, “And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.” In Matthew 16:24 says, “Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.” Ever since the fall of mankind man has been stuck on him or herself that is the reason why Jesus said that we must deny ourselves so that God’s plan could be fulfilled.

IV.God has a Purpose for Human Life.

The Truth about Human Life is that God has a purpose for it. The purpose for human life is found both in the Old and New Testament. Psalms 8:1-9

1 “O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens.

2 Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.
