The Woman with the Issue of Blood
November 11, 2018
Luke 8:40-48 NIV
Now when Jesus returned, a crowd welcomed him, for they were all expecting him. 41 Then a man named Jairus, a ruler of the synagogue, came and fell at Jesus' feet, pleading with him to come to his house 42 because his only daughter, a girl of about twelve, was dying.
As Jesus was on his way, the crowds almost crushed him. 43 And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years, but no one could heal her. 44 She came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak, and immediately her bleeding stopped.
45 "Who touched me?" Jesus asked. When they all denied it, Peter said, "Master, the people are crowding and pressing against you." 46 But Jesus said, "Someone touched me; I know that power has gone out from me."
47 Then the woman, seeing that she could not go unnoticed, came trembling and fell at his feet. In the presence of all the people, she told why she had touched him and how she had been instantly healed. 48 Then he said to her, "Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace."
Jesus has time for us.
• He was headed to the house of Jairus, being pressed by a crowd, but had a conversation with a sick woman.
The woman was desperate and determined.
Sometimes, we don’t know how much we need Jesus, until Jesus is all we have.
She pushed through the crowd. She touched the hem of his garment.
V. 48 - “Daughter, your faith has healed you.”
There are four phrases used in the NT – “no faith”, “little faith”, “great faith”, and “full of faith”
Hebrews 11:1 NIV
“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.”
• “sure” and “certain” – a firm persuasion or conviction
What’s true about God? What issues have been settled?
Our faith must rest on the settled issues. “I’m sure” and “I’m certain”
Faith in the NT is always used to talk about faith IN God, not just faith FOR an outcome.
Story of meeting with a wealthy man who felt people only loved him for his money. It seems we treat God like our rich friend, only coming to him when we think he can help us.
Many times, the greatest miracle is what happens in our heart, not our body.
The measure of our faith isn't seen by the number of prayers we get answered but by the amount of our life we’re willing to surrender.
The greatest act of faith for any of us is when we trust our lives to Jesus!

“I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. 18 I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, 19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe.”
