Things are Going Well...Now What?

Illus. From sermon central

He was born in Columbus, Ohio, 1890, the third of eight children. At eleven he quit school to help with the family expenses, and got his first full-time job at $3.50 per week. At fifteen he got interested in automobiles and went to work in a garage at $4.50 a week. He knew he would never get anywhere without more schooling, so he subscribed to a correspondence home study course on automobiles. Night after night, following long days at the garage, he worked at the kitchen table by the light of the kerosene lamp. His next step was already planned in his mind--a job with Frayer-Miller Automobile Company of Columbus.

One day when he felt ready, he walked into the plant. Lee Frayer was bent over the hood of a car. The boy waited. Finally, Frayer noticed him. "Well," he said, "what do you want?" "I just thought I’d tell you I’m coming to work here tomorrow morning," the boy replied. "Oh! Who hired you?" "Nobody yet, but I’ll be on the job in the morning. If I’m not worth anything, you can fire me." Early the next morning the young man returned to the garage. Frayer was not yet there. Noticing that the floor was thick with metal shavings and accumulated dirt and grease, the boy got a broom and shovel and set to work cleaning the place.

The rest of the boy’s future was predictable. He went on to a national reputation as a racing car driver and automotive expert. In World War I he was America’s leading flying ace. Later he founded Eastern Airlines. His name--Eddie Rickenbacker.

Today, is yesterdays, tomorrow? Tomorrow brings the Blessings and Favor we pray for today!

So many people get caught up with things that happen today. And they can affect every aspect of your life if you let them. Physically, financially, emotionally, it doesn't matter. Because the devil attacks from all angles and aspects of life!

Things may go well today and Gods Blessings and Favor are in abundance, then out of nowhere. Either from human nature, or brought to light by the accuser comes the thought...

What now?

What about tomorrow?

How could things ever get better than they are right now?

This cannot be sustainable, can it?

You better enjoy it, cause it won't last forever!

And this last one is the kicker! And I know some people think this, because I have been guilty of thinking it myself..."if things get any better, I don't know if I can handle it!"

I don't think that's what Eddie Rickenbacker thought , do you? No, I think he was one who probably said...ok what's next Lord! And that's exactly how we should be in our relationship with God, through His Amazing Son Jesus!

What's next? I don't know what it might be, but whatever it is I'm up for it, because it's gonna be GOOD! Amen?? Life should be lived with Expectancy!!

Romans 8:15-16 MSG

15-17 This resurrection life you received from God is not a timid, grave-tending life. It’s adventurously expectant, greeting God with a childlike “What’s next, Papa?” God’s Spirit touches our spirits and confirms who we really are. We know who he is, and we know who we are: Father and children. And we know we are going to get what’s coming to us—an unbelievable inheritance!

This is what the word says about tomorrow.

Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.” (Proverbs 27:1, ESV

It seems as though, a lot of times, we can’t wait for tomorrow, its always tomorrow this and tomorrow that, tomorrow will be a better day, oh well...there’s always tomorrow,

To that I say... What about today, what about right now? What about the blessings God has for you today? What about the blessings God has for you right now?

No matter how you are feeling, no matter how your day is going. Does not affect the availability of the blessings that God has already placed in your path for you on any given day!

The thing it does affect is, your availability to them and your ability to recognize them when their right in front of you!

If you are willing to proclaim it and believe and not doubt in your heart, God can take any situation and change it for your benefit, the moment you make the proclamation!

You may not realize it, but while your taking charge and authority over tomorrow and making declarations about tomorrow! And while that is good, in fact that’s great, but what about today?

Sooner or later, you have to realize yesterdays tomorrow, is today.

Tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow…Tomorrow may very well be a good day, but today can be a great day as well, no matter what time of day it is! Amen?

Pastor Charlie What I personally realized after reading this sermon is that just the daily things the Father does for us, the blessings we take for granted are really huge things. I used to worry about tomorrow, I don't anymore, but I realize I also don't truly enjoy today. Thank you for great reminders. Freda Brock
