The Revelation From God. 7 And the angel of the LORD found her by a fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain in the way to Shur. God Followed Her . . . God Found Her . . .the Bible says, "The angel of the Lord found her" (v.7). The little article "the" identifies this angel as Christ - an O.Testament appearance. He found her in a wilderness . . . is a picture of a person wandering from God He found her near a wall . . . "in the way to Shur" (v.7). Shur means "wall." On the southern border of Canaan and northern border of Egypt there was a great wall built by the Egyptians. It protected Egypt from the rest of the world. It kept people out from the greatest civilization of the day. Hagar is caught between two worlds. She is misfit among the people of God, and not a part of the world. He found her at a well . . ."By the fountain (well) in the way to Shur" (v.7). God Forgave Her . . . He asks two questions that penetrate "Whence camest thou?" or in modern English, "Where have you come from?" "Whither wilt thou go?" or again, in modern English, "Where are you going?"

Until you come to the place where you seriously take an inventory of your life, you will never be in a position to truly follow after Christ. How about you? God Favoured Her . . . 10 And the angel of the LORD said unto her, I will multiply thy seed exceedingly, that it shall not be numbered for multitude.

In meeting Christ she came to know His character. She called Him "El Roi."

Thou . . . If everybody in the world fails me, I can count on one person -- Christ.

God . . . Jesus Christ is more than just a mere man;

Seest . . . more than just an observer, this word speaks of provision -- pro-vision.

Me . . not other saints. God sees me. 3. The Reflection On Grace 13 And she called the name of the LORD that spake unto her, Thou God seest me: for she said, Have I also here looked after him that seeth me? You are a God of seeing, for she said, Have I even here looked upon Him Who sees me ? Or have I here also seen Him Who sees me? 14 Therefore the well was called Beer-lahai-roi ; it is between Kadesh and Bered .I. The God who sees has a PENETRATING eye that KNOWS us. He knows who we are, what we are, and where we are. (I Sam 16:7). But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart. 2. The God who sees has a PROTECTING eye that PRESERVES us. 10 And the angel of the LORD said unto her, I will multiply thy seed exceedingly, that it shall not be numbered for multitude. God delivers us From a place of trouble to a place of triumph 3. The God who sees has a PROSPERING eye that GUIDES us. 9 And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Return to thy mistress, and submit thyself under her hands. Ethel Waters sang for Cliff Barrows "So why should I feel discouraged, Why should the shadows come, Why should my heart be lonely, Away from Heaven and home, Where Jesus is my portion? My constant friend is He: His eye is on the sparrow. And I know He watches me. I sing because I'm happy, I sing because I'm free, For His eye is on the sparrow, And I know He watches me." 4. The Redemption In Glory 14 Wherefore the well was called Beerlahairoi; behold, it is between Kadesh and Bered. A well to the Living One Who sees me a) Hagar's Promise - 10 Also the Angel of the Lord said to her, I will multiply your descendants exceedingly, so that they shall not be numbered for multitude.
