Summary: Jesus said He sent the Holy Ghost to convict the world of sin because we do not believe on Him. Because life teaches us to be sceptical of everyone, we must train our heart to believe on Jesus.

Sin, Righteousness, and Judgment (part 3)

“Training Your Heart to Believe Jesus”

John 16:7-8

7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. 8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9 Of sin, because they believe not on me;

Psalms 1:1-3 teaches us how to train our heart to believe Jesus Christ.

Psalm 1:1-3 (King James Version)

1Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

1. Don’t Listen to What Unbelievers Believe (Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly…)

You can’t learn how or what to believe hanging around unbelievers. Unbelievers won’t tell you what God says. Unbelievers will tell you what they say. They say you can’t… They say you don’t… They say God can’t… They say God won’t…

2. Don’t Do What Unbelievers Do (…nor standeth in the way of sinners…) The saying is “getting it out of your system”. The problem is you don’t get something out of your system by doing it. You put something into your system by doing it. You are training your heart to sin. If you are training your heart to sin then you are not training your heart to believe.

(Psalm 19:13)

Iniquity becomes presumptuous sin,

presumptuous sin becomes transgression,

transgression becomes behavior,

behavior becomes a habit,

a habit becomes a vice,

a vice becomes Satan’s device the he uses to push you back

from faith to fear,

from fear to doubt,

from doubt to unbelief,

from unbelief to disobedience,

from disobedience to rebellion and rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft.

3. Don’t Tell Unbelievers What God has Said to You (…nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful - Don’t hang around haters) – You can’t share your vision, your dreams, your goals, or your plans with everyone. There are people that want nothing out of life and want you to have nothing too. There are people that are OK with you having something as long as they feel like you have less than them. Don’t hang around haters!

4. Open Up the Book and See What God Wants You to Believe About You (Psalms 1:2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.)

You have to open up the book and find the place where it is written about you to see what God says about you!

Hebrews 4:1-2

1Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.

2For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.

The word does not work unless you mix faith with it. The word does not work unless you work it. Faith works just like a muscle. Every muscle is connected to at least two things: the origin and the insertion. Its connected to something that moves and something that doesn’t. Faith is always reaching down and grounded in the written word of what God has already while simultaneously reaching up toward the Son for a spoken word of what the Holy Ghost is saying right now.
