Series: Church On The Move (Colossians)[#7]

VICTORIOUS (PART 2)

Colossians 3:5-17

Introduction:

Last week, as we focused on the cross of Jesus Christ, we focused upward. This morning I want us to focus inward.

Inward

…Christ is all, and is in all (Colossians 3:11b).

The main theme from the beginning of time until right now has been and is Jesus Christ. In order for anyone to have a victorious life they must have Christ in them and that is possible through the Holy Spirit which lives in all believers of Jesus Christ.

We know that our faith in Christ has given us eternal victory; but it is our daily obedience to God that we find the daily victories.

To have a victorious life each day you must…

“Put to death, therefore whatever belongs to your earthly nature:”(Colossians 3:5a).

Listed in this passage is several types of sin.

“… sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.” (Colossians 3:5b).

“… anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Do not lie to each other,…” (Colossians 3:8b-9a).

The result of sin is death.

“Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. You used to walk in these ways in the life you once lived.” (Colossians 3:6-7).

All “lost” people walk in sin. That is what lost people do and it is what each one of walked in before we were saved.

God despises sin so bad that He will one day pour out His wrath upon this earth and destroy it. What is He waiting on?

2 Peter 3:3-10

To have a victorious life each day you must…

“… since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.” (Colossians 3:9b-10).

Listed in verses 12-14 are things Christians are supposed to do.

“… clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.” (Colossians 3:12b-14).

Here we have a summation of Galatians 5:22-23.

Galatians 5:22-23

Not only are we to bear fruit, we are to bear with each other. That means we are to put up with each other when no one else will.

We must forgive each other of all things. Jesus has cleansed us of all our sins through His blood. We didn’t deserve that but He did it anyhow.

As always, love is what puts it all together.

1 Corinthians 13:1-3

To have a victorious life each day you must…

“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.” (Colossians 3:15-16).

You are to let the peace of Christ rule in your heart and let the Word of Christ dwell in you.

Conclusion:

“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” (Colossians 3:17).

Christians, if you want to live in victory every day, look upward and then look inward.

Don’t forget: It’s all about Jesus!
