Summary: This message is a reminder that we are LOVED by God, OWNED by God, VALUED by God, EQUIPPED by God and DESTINED FOR HEAVEN by God.

Introduction

Most people in today’s world grow up without a sense of identity, purpose and direction in life. Many also grow up without love, without a sense of belonging, a sense of worth, confidence to perform in life, without a sense of direction and more. Today’s message seeks to address all of the above innate needs we possess. I’m using the acrostic LOVED to address these issues.

L – Loved by God

O – Owned by God

V – Valued by God

E – Equipped by God

D – Destined for heaven by God

1. LOVED BY GOD

Not all children grow up with love in the home, and because of that, love is sought outside the home, and sometimes in wrong places and people, and one can end up feeling a lot less loved than before they commenced the search for love. This search can go on for all of life, until one discovers the love of God, which is really what all humans both need, and are searching for unconsciously.

We as The Church, need to bear in mind that we are Loved by God, and therefore don’t need to embark on this search for love, unless of course we do not realise that we are loved. Below are a few facts about God’s love that we should never forget as believers in Jesus.

God’s Love…

• Is free, and for all - John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

• Is everlasting - Jeremiah 31:3 - “Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore with loving kindness I have drawn you.”

• Is unconditional - Romans 5:8 – “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

• Is unfailing - Romans 8:38-39 – “For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” 1 Corinthians 13:8 – “Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away.”

• Is reconciling - 1 John 3:1 – “Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God…”

• Is poured out in our hearts through God’s Holy Spirit - Romans 5:5 – “…the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.”

• Was best demonstrated through Jesus’s death, burial and resurrection - 1 John 4:9-10 – “In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”

FORGET-ME-NOTS ABOUT GOD’S LOVE

• God’s love for us has nothing to do with who we are or the way we live our lives – it has everything to do with who God is - God loves because He is loving.

• We’ve all experienced, and continue to experience God’s love every day in our lives, but it’s only when we comprehend God’s love and respond to it, that any change can take place in our lives.

• We can never do anything to deserve God’s love

• Many are searching for this love – but in the wrong places

SO WHAT

• We need to love God because he first loved us - 1 John 5:1-3 – “Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves Him who begot also loves him who is begotten of Him. 2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments. 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.” 1 John 4:19 19 We love Him because He first loved us.

• Obedience is the best evidence of our love for God - John 14:15 - “If you love Me, keep My commandments.”

• We need to love people like we were loved by God - John 13:34 – “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. John 15:12 – “This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.” 1 John 3:10-18 – “In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is he who does not love his brother. 11 For this is the message that you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another, 12 not as Cain who was of the wicked one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his works were evil and his brother’s righteous.13 Do not marvel, my brethren, if the world hates you. 14 We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love his brother abides in death. 15 Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.16 By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. 17 But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him? 18 My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.” 1 John 4:7-8 – “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 8 He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.” 1 John 4:11 – “Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.”1 John 4:20-21 20 If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? 21 And this commandment we have from Him: that he who loves God must love his brother also.”
