Summary: This is the purpose of the birth of Christ… that we have a mediator between us and God!

This sermon was adapted from ICR (Institute for creation research) Day's of Praise devotional. I took it and broke it up a little and added to emphasize scripture to make this a sermon. There is more you can add to it but this is the basic outline.

1 Timothy 2:5 (KJV) For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

This is the purpose of the birth of Christ… that we have a mediator between us and God! …a mediator is a lawyer/attorney…someone who speaks to the judge for us..

But Jesus is MORE than just a mediator…more about that later

Without a mediator, we have NO hope of salvation…heaven…knowing God

1 Timothy 2:5 is one of the key verses of Scripture for several reasons.

In the first place,

We live in the midst of a pantheistic and polytheistic society

• Pantheism is the belief that reality is identical with divinity

• That all-things compose of an all-encompassing god.

• Pantheist don’t recognize a distinct personal god

• But instead, they believe in a broad range of doctrines differing in forms of relationships between reality and divinity.

• In other words, pantheism is the belief that the universe is in some sense divine and should be revered

• It’s a kind of a “Star Wars, Use the Force Luke” mentality.

What Is Polytheism?

Polytheism is the belief in many gods and their worship.

The majority of the world’s religions are based on polytheism, excluding, of course, Christianity, Judaism and Islam, which follow the principles of monotheism.

So, we see how important it is to emphasize that there was only one Creator God—the One to whom even kings must give account

and the only One to whom we can rightfully pray to.

Secondly,

Christ Jesus, who was Himself “God...manifest in the flesh”

and then “received up into glory” (1 Timothy 3:16),

was nevertheless still “the man Christ Jesus.”

He is still a man,

even though His human body has been resurrected and glorified.

Therefore, He can, indeed, “be touched with the feeling of our infirmities”

and we can “come boldly” to His “throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy,

and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:15-16).

Hebrews 4:15-16 (KJV) For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Then, because He is both omnipotent God and perfect man,

“in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin” (v. 15),

He is uniquely able to serve as the one and only “mediator between God and men.”

Furthermore, as the only God-Man,

fully and eternally both God and man,

He is the only one through whom we can reach God’s throne in prayer.

“I am the way, the truth, and the life,” He said, “no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6).

No one else—man or woman,

saint or priest, angel or demon—

has direct access to God,

for the Son is the one mediator between God and man.

We can come to God, however,

for “we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous” (1 John 2:1).

But Jesus is MORE than just a mediator…

He is able to save us…

Hebrews 7:25 (KJV) Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

Let’s look at this in two parts:

1). Hebrews 7:25 (KJV) “Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him,”

Many people want to do things… nice things… good things

But they don’t have the ability, or are not “able” to see it through

Ills. I can’t give you a Million $’s because I’m not able to

The good news is Jesus can see it through!

He will see you through tonight!...

2). Hebrews 7:25 (KJV) “seeing he Ever Liveth to make intercession for them.”

My paraphrase:, “Jesus lives for this”.

Have you ever used that phrase? “He/she lives for this”

He Ever-Liveth to make intercession for US!
